I am studying in London, and my friend and I want to travel the U.K. this year. Any suggestions of places to go?

We are already planning on going to Oxford, and I have been to Cambridge and Bath...

We are open to any place, big city or small town, as long as there is something to do or see. Thanks!

Right, here's what you should do.
1. Go south to Dover
2. Escape

UK is not a BIG place but it is rich in history.
Canterbury is not too far from you.
There are coaches from Victoria Bus Station or you catch a train.
The Cathedral is the center of interest and even if your not catholic it has a lot to offer.
The town is great too with street actors and jugglers.

Salisbury's magnificent medieval cathedral and the site of Stonehenge is not far away.....Salisbury town very old and the cathedral houses the oldest clock in England.

What do you like though ?
Do you drive or take public transport.

You could travel south west to Cornwall...it is usually warmer there than anywhere else due to the warmer waters coming across the Atlantic....only place in England with palm trees.

I want to go to England for the 2012 Olympics and go to Iffley Road, where Roger Bannister made sports history by becoming the first to break the four-minute mile.

Really? It's fairly big - bigger than Poland anyway, a country I have visited.

There's plenty to see and do in Britain. Come up north and enjoy the hospitality, the warm beer and the lovely countryside.

I loved the UK when I went! I'd have to say my favorite country overall was Scotland and I also absolutely loved Wales and England! I wasn't too fond of Ireland though. But in Scotland, there was this one place they had called the Time Capsule (I don't know what town it was though), but when I was there, I had the best day of my life. Ever.

Britain, Britain, Britain.....We've had running water for over 10 years, an underground tunnel linking us to Peru, and we invented the cat.[/TomBaker]

I would say both Cornwall and Yorkshire are musts.
Tintagel in Cornwall and the quieter areas.
Hastings in Sussex is lovely.
Bodmin moor.
Winchester near myself is a wonderful city...was once, long ago, the capital of England, of course.

Have you visited any castles yet? I always found castle hopping fun. Warwick was my fav & Castle Rising was my sisters. I wish I was back home in the UK...

Enjoy yourselves!

The UK, despite me finding that it sucks to live here, is a great place to travel around, and I'll be doing plenty of that when I pass my driving test and get my car, lots of nice places to see, and even I haven't seen the vast majority of them yet

I live in a nice little Yorkshire market town that has a big castle and plenty of history, it attracts visitors from all over

It depends what your into. I suppose castles & cathedrals are good, because you dont get them in the states.

E2A: I think you should definately head up north, its a completely different cultural landscape up there. Take a slow trip up to scotland.

The lake district is the most obvious attraction in terms of natural landscape in england, its extremely touristy but the towns still have a quaintness about them - try google image search for examples.

Whilst your in London you could do worse than attend one of our wrongplanet meetups :)
