I like the Blues, does anyone else? If there are Blues songs that you like, please post them here.

Here is Muddy Waters' 1977 version of Mannish Boy -

This is my favourite Robert Johnson song, Preaching Blues (Up Jumped the Devil) -

Cool.

There was a period in my life I was totally into the blues. Old blues, ~ '30, '40, '50, '60 ~. Listened to it quite obsessively for a couple of years. Later on forgot about it. Shame really.

Um.... some said then, me putting the music on again, that it made them feel sad listening to blues songs and I never understood that one bit. It has the opposite effect on me. I can go very happy with a good blues song.

This is one I like:

Later more.

I've never listened to them before, but Wikipedia lists among their genres "Blues-rock" so yeah, please do post.

Great topic. 8)

I Love The Blues.
Blues music seems to grow out of me organically.
When I play the guitar, and I'm just noodling around, not really paying attention, blues music is what happens to come out.

I've always identified with Jim Morrison's lyrics at the end of "Maggie McGill", where he sings, "I'm an old blues man, and I think that you'd understand, I've been singing the blues, ever since the world began"

I can think of so many examples...
I'll post some videos when I get some time to find good ones.

Thanks for posting that Erminea. My interest in the Blues came from trying to find out what inspired Jimi Hendrix, who his heroes and influences were.

Here is one of my favourite Blind Willie McTell songs. This was recorded by John Lomax for the Library of Congress in 1940. He interviewed McTell and it's recorded, but unfortunately a lot of the interview was destroyed in editting (I think by Alan Lomax, John Lomax's son but I'm not sure).

Since I'm going to sleep soon, and want to beat Erminea for number of songs posted :D , I shall leave with this:

Muddy Waters rewrote Robert Petway's song Catfish Blues (at least it seems to be his song as nobody recorded it before him and his friend Tommy McClennan says he wrote it, and he would have known if it was older) as Rollin' Stone. This song has since been covered so many times (There is a live Jimi Hendrix version on Youtube if anyone is interested). It is from the song Rolling Stone that the Rolling Stones got their name, I have heard (although I have also heard they got it from the line "I'm a rollin' stone" in Mannish Boy).

Here are the two songs -

(I would have preferred not to have posted a live version)

I think I make too liberal a use of brackets (probably because I get sidetracked and feel the need to write about these distractions).

Willie Dixon, a great blues legend. Wikilink

This piece of music is totally, amazingly brilliant, imo.

Dixon was also producer of, for instance, Koko Taylor....

Blind Willie Johnson - Motherless Children Have a Hard Time

Blind Willie Johnson's mother died when he was young. He became blind at the age of seven, or so says folklore, when, after his father beat his stepmother for sleeping with another man, she threw lye into Johnson's eyes.
