people are quick to get rid of CRTs now,and upgrade to LCD.
they're easier to look at and take up less space, but changing to LCD has a major issue, and it's not very nice.....for cats.

many cats, all over the world like to sleep and stand on their humans' monitor and assume the human is staring at them all the time giving them attention when really they're just looking at livenudecats/catsthatlooklikehitler/wp/whatever on the screen.

with the size of LCD monitors now,not even skinny cats can balance on them can they?
Biscuit is currently lying straight across knee as the PC here has a big LCD,it's been here for so long yet she still goes up to it and tries to jump on top, when a cat of her size has no chance of doing anything but knocking it over.
how else are cats going to warm their bums and be able to monitor surf?

don't think they thought of cats comfort and attention seeking when they started to get rid of them.

anyone elses cats like being sat on monitors? any able to manage it on an LCD?

I service computes for several cat owners, yes the demise of the CRT was bad for cats the more enlightened ones have special woolly cat cradles that hang on the radiators keeping kitty just as happy :)

I've never seen a cat on top of a CRT monitor,so IDK what the OP is talking about.

I still have a CRT, I kind of prefer it for graphics...

The cat likes it too, and stands on top looking down at me like a vulture when she thinks I've had enough "computer time".

Cats are warm blooded animals. Why do they need to sit on warm objects?

My cats prefer to fight over which one gets my lap while I am on my computer.

Warm-blooded animals differ from cold-blooded one is that they are able to maintain constant body temperature, yet maintaining a constant body temp through metabolism is extremely energy-consuming. A warm-blooded animal loses body heat more rapidly resting on a cool surface than a warm one, so the body doesn't have to work as hard to maintain that constant body temp if the body rests on a warm surface. And if the body is resting/sleeping, it is losing body heat more rapidly because heat isn't generated by muscle movement. This means either the body has to work harder to maintain body temp - which can be counterproductive during restorative sleep or rest - or the animal can find a place warm enough that it doesn't lose body heat as easily.

Hence, cats, who have a higher normal body temp than humans, like warm or insulting places to sleep or nap, like a spot of sunlight, a pile of laundry, or a computer monitor. Humans use blankets for the same effect.

They could sit on your lap, or if you have a laptop they can sit on that, like this kitty

He'll even stop you from doing the dirty.

would these be easy to get on for cats who require least use of effort?

There you go then, proof yer a genuine cat lover-you keep yer old style monitor so puss can curl up.

Cats were worshipped as gods by the ancient Egyptians. Cats have never forgotten this ....

The ultimate cat sleeping quarters were those old console TV's built in the sixties and seventies. I remember as a kid the cat always curling up on top the big Motorola TV my parents had when we were watching TV. That old TV got very warm while playing and made a nice bed for kitty. Mom put a bunch of pillows up there for him to sleep on.

I still like the picture quality on CRT monitors better than any of the LCD ones out there. The contrast range and color depth is so much better. CRT's are also better at handling different resolutions. LCD's only look good at their native resolution
