Disgusting. Gross.

I was walking along the street and these two men passed me, and one of them started coughing, then wretching. Because I have emetophobia I filled with fear as I thought he was going to vomit right near me. He didn't vomit, he just spat out phlegm on to the ground and went on his way.

Such disgusting behaviour to do in public, especially making a meal of it like that. I had to stare (yes, he deserved to be judged), and I muttered "how disgusting!" but they didn't hear me I don't think.

I could tell they were just rude people just by looking at them.

I hate seeing that, too. When I was in junior high the boys were always spitting on the ground where they were hanging around outside. And then the sidewalks and pavement would be just covered in it. Why do they do that? Do they have more saliva in their mouths than girls do, or do they think it makes them look edgy? But that's nothing compared to people hawking up a big gob of phlegm right in public, especially now because covid.

You should discreetly cough it into a tissue, dispose of the tissue properly, and then sanitize or wash your hands. But how many people actually do that?

Yeah, trash seems to have more saliva and phlegm than human beings. I have to be careful when I sit on the bench at the train station etc because some trash might have dropped its saliva/phlegm on it.

My social anxiety told me that he only did that because I was passing and they wanted to gross me out as a way of getting my attention and making fun of me. But when I glared at them and muttered how disgusting he was, they didn't seem to notice I was there at all, so that just proves that he was just an ill-mannered person.

They weren't teenagers either, they looked around my age. But they probably smoked a lot of cigarettes or something, as that often makes you cough up phlegm. But it made me feel sick for the rest of the day. That's the sort of people you get in the city I live in. Most people here don't seem to have much self-respect.

And to think that I thought that Britain was a charming little country that was stuck somewhere in the 1940s.

If he was, say, a small child or an elderly person (who might be ill) then I might have not felt so irritated (still grossed out but still accepting). But I could tell that this guy was being stupidly dramatic about it like he wanted to draw attention to himself.

Then people wonder why I hate transporting between two different buildings at work (something I suddenly have to do now but didn't have to before). I have to stand in the street and wait for the company ferry car, with so many jerks and weirdos and drunken louts about.

I get embarrassed when I have to blow my nose around other people, but it tends to run even when I'm not sick. Like when I'm eating food that is hot or spicy. Sometimes my mother has asked me if I have cold when we're eating out and I tell her no because I feel fine, my nose is just running from the food.
But I can't just let my nose drip all over the place, that's even more gross. And swallowing too much mucus can upset your stomach. :eew:

I was just reading that in China people are always spitting up big gobs of mucus everywhere and anywhere in public, even in nice restaurants and hospitals. They also burp and fart constantly in public without a second thought, sneeze without covering their mouths, let their toddlers pee and poop everywhere, or they will come right up to you to touch your hair or take pictures without even asking. They're normally doing that last thing out of curiosity and not hostility, but China sounds like a really scary place for a western germaphobe with ASD. 8O

In Japan however, people are quite obsessed with cleanliness. I read that they think it's rude to even blow your nose when it runs in public. It's okay to be sniffling until you go to a place where you can blow your nose in private. That would be hard for me.

In Japan face masks have been worn long before covid. It's even encouraged when a person has a cold. Although that used to make me think it wasn't very effective during the swine flu pandemic in the early 2000s. If there was a pandemic. :?

I have chronic allergy & sinus problems & I have to blow my nose & spit out phlegm a lot sometimes & I sometimes cough a lot as well due to the sinus drip. I'm on a few meds for that but they do NOT help enough. Some people think it sounds like a smokers cough but I never smoked 1ce in my life & being around smoke or smokers makes it worse. Unfortunately it's impossible to find an apartment complex where the landlords actually evict people for smoking cigs or pot even thou the leases say it's not allowed :( I try to be conscious about if others are close if I need to do that while I'm out but sometimes my nose will start dripping if I don't blow it & it's not always possible to stop myself from coughing. I do swallow my phlegm instead of spitting it out when others are close by but there will be a rebound effect later.
