I always notice these things, and they irritate me. For some reason I focused on the "Cure Autism Now" logo and was highly agitated by the childish font for "autism".

Anyone else notice tiny details about things in a similar fashion- and feel like some things just pop out and attack them?

oh yes...........it's confusing, with non AS OCD it is said that 'the devil is in the detail' where as one with AS the preoccupation with details is a positive trait. Having classic OCD and AS I find it useful to discern what am I drawn to and what am I driven too.

I find this an art form

Being detail oriented has been both positive and negative for me.

On the positive, I'm very good with remembering complex (cooking) recipes and carrying them out, I remember small details of events other people overlook, which in retrospect, could be beneficial, and I'm quite good at recognizing patterns and inconsistencies.

On the negative, I can focus on things that don't matter, or completely miss the point.

I remember how a while ago on the Insomniac Forums I was posting screenshots and pointing out many graphical enhancements and details and many people were like "Wow, I would never have noticed that!!". One guy even said I'm like that guy from Monk! I didn't point out the irony. 8)

Absolutely.

I visit a particular music forum occasionally and at the bottom of each page of threads there's an icon key. The 'hot topic with no new posts' icon is exactly the same as the icon for 'hot topic with new posts' and it drives me to distraction.

Three times I have contacted mods and admins and asked them to fix it but they can't be bothered. So now I visit the forum less and less because each time I go, I just have to check the icon key, and it's always wrong

They all think I'm weird anyway

Years ago (way before the CSI craze) I watched a show about a true crime investigation. The murder victim was a model.

One of the detectives on the case was a woman, and a detail she noticed ended up cracking the case. It turned out that the victim's purse and shoes did not match, a mistake a professional model would never make.

She had been dressed up by her killer, dressed up in clothes that he had bought.

The lesson? Only pervos care about your friggin shoes ;)

I buy books like Eats, Shoots & Leaves in order to find and highlight the grammatical errors and typos in them, laughing evilly all the while. I haven't quite descended to the level of carrying felt-tipped markers in order to correct errors in apostrophe use on public signage. But believe me, I've thought about it.

I do this all the time, for kicks.

I once was privy to reading a friend's book before it was printed... I resent it to him completely rewritten. He asked me if I wanted credit, and I declined. I told him it wasn't important, but the truth is I was embarrassed for him that his writing displayed a fourth grade education. As such- the thesaurus was not his friend!

Honestly I found the endeavor to be a lot of fun. Like a puzzle, only with misspelled words and lousy punctuation. I swear sometimes, I should be an editor...

Apollyon, have a look at THIS SITE FROM THE UK, and try his proofreading test! Also, you might get a laugh (if you haven't already read it) from THIS ESSAY on usage by Sars at Tomato Nation.

I also get this urge to correct spelling and grammar in things that I read.
