Can some one remind me about the story behind that song "Sweet Home Alabama" did'nt they die in a plane crash or something?
That one I know...that was actually a "poke" aimed at Neil Young at the time...
"Well I heard mister young sing about her
Well, I heard ole neil put her down
Well, I hope neil young will remember
A southern man don't need him around anyhow"
Neil Young had previously released "Southern Man" and another song "Alabama" this was their answer to those songs.
Van Zant, Gaines & his wife and the road manager died in a plane crash...the album Street Survivors had been released or was just being released...the cover photo was a picture of the group surrounded in flames...they pulled the album and re-did the cover afterwards. Some with the flame cover are still around though, had one myself...eerie picture considering how they died.
