Did you ever do this?

As a kid I would lie in bed and stare at my ceiling and make up all kinds of shapes, because my ceiling was the rough, indented kind (do you know what I'm talking about?) and the next night I could find the exact same ones. I had a whole constellation of shapes up there - rabbits, a guitar, a fish, etc.

But I don't do it anymore. I hope I haven't lost my imagination...LOL.

OOOh, I feel sorry for you that you don't do this anymore.

I find all sorts of patterns, faces, animals, science-fiction type images, etc, in the swirls and irregularities of wall and ceiling surfaces.
Friday I was at a therapist's office (I see her a couple times a month) and was sitting in a different position on the couch.
I looked up and saw .... aww shoot! I forget right now.. but she does have William Shakespeare on her other wall! :P
I interrupted her Friday to point out the other face which I cannot remember now.

There's a coffee house called Ramone's in Old Town, Eureka, and they have this cool wall board that covers just the lower half of the wall in their small bathroom.
I've already told the lady who manages the place that I'm taking her paneling if she ever remodels the bathroom and gets rid of it... SO DON'T ANY OF YOU GET ANY IDEAS ABOUT IT... IT'S MINE I TELL YA!
They have Don Quixote, space beings, a bat (the animal, that is), and many other things on the wall.
The cool thing is that there are four panels there, and on the wall I face when sitting down the two panels are inverted.
I get to see the same figures upside down next to each other.

Guess you could say I still get excited about this... it's just one of my personal pleasures in life, I guess.
Perhaps it takes me away mentally from what's been on my mind or what's going on around me.

Nice post! You made me smile! :D
:D :D :D :D :D :D :thumright: :thumleft:

Yes, I did that a lot when I was a kid. I still do now, whenever I see a patterned or textured surface.

Funny thing is that I indeed easily see shapes of all kinds. Animals mostly. But that which I see in things is rarely ever seen by other, non-autistic people. They however are able to see things in shapes that I can't seem to make out, mostly faces and human bodies.

Clouds are the best things that form shapes, right next to ingrain wallpapers.

Wow. I thought everyone did this. Until now it had never occurred to me that seeing shapes, objects and animals wasn't 'normal' 8O For me it's not just ceilings but patterned anything - frosted glass in a bathroom window can keep me in there for ages :D

As a child I used to fall asleep looking at the shapes and animals in the folds of the curtains. I got into trouble one night when I saw a monkey banging a drum strapped to its chest, fell asleep and dreamt the monkey came down from the curtains and was malevolently marching up to the bed, full of evil intent. I screamed for my mother but she was not best pleased with my explanation

I used to find shapes in things like ceilings and those front door glass windows that had repeating patterns.

Okay... now for the next step... How many of you glance at a bright light, close your eyes and observe the floaties and shapes you 'see' on the back of you eyelids? :D
