For me to buy myself a $200 Birthday Present. Since my Birthday isn't until the end of October, I've figured that I could put $50 Dollars, plus all the money that I don't spend on stuff that I don't really want, or need into my Routemaster envelope, every Month. In the middle of September, I can go into my local Hobby Shop and order myself, "The Silver Lady" to buy myself, for my Birthday. I make a point of helping out with Chores, both around home, and at my Clubhouse and I feel that I should be really nice to myself right now, with December 9, 2005 still in the back of my Mind.

Do you think that it would be selfish for me to buy myself a $200 London Bus, for my Birthday?

Has anybody bought themself a Big Ticket item for for their Brithday, and did it feel good to do so?

For what actual reason could it be selfish? If you cannot think of any actual reason why it would be selfish, then it probably is not.

I cannot think of any reason why it would be selfish to spend your own money on something you want.

Unless you are married... then you must consider your partner and then there is a possibility for a purchase to be selfish, for example if you purchased an expensive toy when the both of you were trying to save to get the hot water unit fixed, or something like that.

Or unless you have children and you spend the money on an expensive toy instead of food and the kids go hungry or instead of a dental checkup for the kids... obviously that would be selfish.

But if you are not married and have no children and it is your own money, I cannot think of a reason why it would be selfish. Go for it! :)

I'm not married, so it wouldn't be selfish. :) I guess that I've been listening to Dr. Laura, too much.

I don't think so, birthday presents are supposed to be about fun stuff, not things you "need". If you can spare the money, why not treat yourself? (My mom used to listen to Dr. Laura, she kinda scares me! )

Why not go for it? If you're not spending extravagantly as it is, then why not go for something you really would enjoy? There's nothing to be ashamed of.

I shop mostly for myself. I've got myself tons of stuff... I've been on a few shopping sprees... with my Dole money besides! :D

If you can comfortably afford it, why not?
