I have a hole in my tooth. Actually half of it is gone because the filling came out. My boyfriend thought it looked painful and the dentists were asking me if it hurts. It doesn't hurt. I feel nothing. So the dentist did a test on it by putting this cool stuff on the q-tip and putting it in the decay part of the tooth. She told me to raise my hand if I start to feel pain. So she puts it on and I feel the coolness and the fact she has it in there but no pain. Then she takes it out and says she is going to do another test. She puts more cool stuff on the other side of the q-tip and puts it on the other side of my mouth on my gum above one of my molars and this time I do feel something so I raise my hand and she says "That tooth is dead."

Luckily it doesn't need to be pulled they said. They said what they do is take out the decay and the dead nerves and they fill it. But because the tooth has a deep hole in it and is so near the nerves in my gums, I need to go to a specialist. They said they would call my insurance company and they will contact me telling me where I need to go. I don't even know if they cover that part or not. They only cover a few dental places here. I would have to save up or save some money aside and have it done myself.

But I'm glad my tooth is dead because I can't feel the pain.
My boyfriend has to be in pain 24/7 because of his infected wisdom tooth and he can't afford to have it pulled. It would have cost him 300 dollars and he didn't want to borrow that much from his aunt. He had his others pulled for 100 each and he had it done each year but the last one, they said he had to go to a specialist for because of the way it was grown in and it has been effecting his other teeth too. Decay and cavities in them. I don't want the same to happen with me so I want to take care of my dead tooth ASAP once I hear from my insurance company.

I even wonder how long it's been dead. I wonder if it was already dead in 1996 because I can remember going to the dentist for the very first time and I had three cavities and my back molar had a big one because the back of it was all black and it was painless. They drilled it and filled it and 11 years later it fell out because it had a cavity under it so it caused the filling to fall off while I was eating a starburst and more of it fell off two weeks later while I was eating a chocolate and left this big hole. I did not even feel the pain when the cavity started.

My mum had a dead tooth for about 20 years, it was functional but slightly darker in colour than the ones near it. Eventually part of it chipped off, I don't know if that was because it was dead or not but I remember she took a bite of an apple and part of her tooth snapped off. She didn't even notice when it happened because of not being able to feel it. I hope stuff goes well for you with the insurance company, dental work can be so expensive

My tooth looks like the same color as my other teeth strangely. I wonder why. On the broken side of my molar it looks grayish.

It's alright to feel sorry for a tooth, isn't it?
Poor little fellow.

I have a chipped tooth. The chip is very small. I got it by opening a beer bottle with my teeth. My boyfriend is missing several teeth. He really needs to see a dentist, but he can't because he has no insurance. It's weird how his teeth fall out without causing him any apparent pain.

I had a dead tooth that was pulled. Now I have a hole that I can blow air from (wee~). It was chipping before I got it removed and hurt for a while. Now I have a very small chip in one of my front teeth from being hit by my own hair beads. They were sea shells and quite hard.

I also went to a specialist (dental surgeon) to have my wisdom teeth removed, because they were very close to nerves and there was a risk of (semi-permanent to permanent) paralysis. Luckly everything went great.

In general I hate going to the dentist (even for cleaning). I hate the smell, it always hurts (no matter what they do), I've had problems since I was little so I go far too often, etc. The only good part is the pressure of the lead blanket they use for x-rays. :D

Maybe they're dead?

I'm not sure if my tooth is dead, or bruised, or what. You can't really see it in my avatar, cuz of the light, but it's the left front tooth on the top row. When I was in 6th grade I ran down the slide and smashed into a kid smaller than me, and I basically stabbed his skull with my tooth. I was actually in all the pain, blood all over, and he was just aching a bit. He has a small scar, I still have a dark tooth right in the front.

I'm still a little embarassed of the tooth, and strangely enough it has made me more critical, or at least more noticing, of other peoples' tooth faults, though I don't really care, I almost like them more for it. I'm weird. Hahaha.
