Post about any adventure you had, at all.
When I was 10 I woke up one day, in January 1988, and dreaded having to get up and go to school and sit, bored, in my 4th-grade classroom all day. The lights seemed to all be off for some reason. But I didn't want to get my hopes up. My mother came in and told me to get up and get dressed and come and eat breakfast in the kitchen; that the power was out but I might, that I probably DID, still have school. She had been making breakfast when the power went out, porridge. I ate some porridge. Then my mother and I got into our winter clothes and went outside to the bus stop. It took like half an hour just to get there; the parking lot that sloped downwards to the back doors was a slide that we had to climb up very carefully. We stood for another half hour at the bus stop. Everything, and I do mean everything, was covered in ice. I had homework I hadn't completed, I think, and I was a bit anxious and hoping there would be no school, but I never got my hopes up.
It lasted 2 weeks. 2 whole weeks without school. The whole island of Montreal was blacked out, along with parts of Ontario and other parts of Quebec that bordered on Montreal. Trees fell on top of cars, 35 people died, it was declared a state of emergency, the Army was called in, and it was in the Guinness Book of World Records as the most devastating ice storm. People in Montreal still talk about it to this day. It was an international incident; people from all over the world were worried about their relatives in Montreal, because the the roads were so dangerous and/or blocked that it was hard getting food in to people, and all the food we had was basically stuff donated from stores and restaurants that would have gone bad anyway due to no power.
I had just turned 10. It was the best birthday present I ever got. We spent like a day just talking about the ice storm in school on our first day back. We were all anxious to tell what happened to us! I was disappointed it was all over but happy to tell everyone of my adventure. My friend from school whom I had hung out with at the shelter said that she was embarrassed about going to the shelter; that her teacher had made her class write in their journals about their experiences and she was embarrassed about writing that she had been in a shelter, but she had gone to the shelter because she knew I'd be there, or something. We were good friends for a while. From grade 2 to grade 7.

Almost 7 years ago, I took a bus to Mexico and hitchhiked across Central Mexico with a good friend/ex-boyfriend.....(my only time leaving the country)...(I met up with him there..he had been living there for several months..)
Anywhoo....um.....We stayed for much of the time in Guanajuato, which is pretty close, I am sure to the geographic center of Mexico. Seemingly in the middle of the city there is a mountain called the Bufa and for some reason there was some sort of festival going on where everyone was climbing the Bufa all at once...some sorta pilgrimage...there were all these concessions and whatnot set up at the base...So gruelingly, we climb the Bufa, and stay in this cave that is off the beaten path....the cave has 3 chambers...the mouth, an upper chamber and a lower chamber...There is alot of old graffitti on the roof of the mouth...On the first night, we stay in the upper chamber...very barren and dusty and kinda creepy...I keep hearing the flapping sounds of bats, even though my friend insists that we would hear squeaky noises if there were bats....we did come across a large lizard. It was a sort of intense feeling...of "feeling" the energy of the cave...hard to explain...
The next day we spend on the side of the mountain...across the valley you could see the tiny specks of a herd of goats grazing one way and then back again.....To wander down from the cave and look up at it, it is obvious that the cave eerily resembles a skull...There are cactuses growing out of pits that make the eyes...a vague indentation of a nose, and the mouth of the skull is the mouth of the cave.
The next night we decide to sleep in the mouth of the cave...anywhoo...in the middle of the night..or wee hours of early morning....we are awakened by the loud sound of hoofbeats....
It is a herd of free roaming cattle that is invading our camp site.
Wearing only our skivvies and with only time to grab our one ratty blanket (we left the fancy sleeping bag on the ground)....we run for our lives and lay on the side of the mountain listening in horror to the sounds of wild cattle laying waste to our little camp site. They ate all our food....they destroyed my friend's mess kit...they tromped all over everything....seemingly deliberately destructive. We shivered on the side of the mountain with my ratty little blanket for hours, and the cattle would not leave....these were big, aggressive, sharp-horned beasts....bulls and cows....not to be messed with....After destroying all of our belongings, they lay down for a snooze.....The sun was pretty high in the sky the next day....like 11:00..before they left....and then we had just enough time to assess the complete damage and grab what tattered things we could grab before the cows came back. All my friend was wearing was a really short pair pink shorts of mine (i wear them under skirts) and a t-shirt....His other clothes were trampled into the cow poo..There was a cow turd on my sketch book that completely covered it....
So we have to climb back down the mountain all in tatters....reeking of cow dung from what few posessions we manage to salvage....and we get back to the house where he was staying with a friend...to find that we are not allowed to stay there anymore.... I forget what happened after that....that might have been around the time we took off hitchhiking.....He is/was alot more social and wreckless than me....he also has fluent command of Spanish....Very good at schmoozing with people and getting places to stay and whatnot...
There was all kinds of other stuff that happened on that trip, but the attack cattle really sorta stand out
I still have the blanket and the pink shorts. The guy is still my friend. He used to be my roommate and play in my band.
I recall that after the fisaco with the cows we kept asking people what they would have doen in our position to get the cows to leave our cave....The most sensible answer we kept getting was to wave a flaming branch at them to scare them away...if only we had thought of that
I hate it when I don't think of something that's obvious and cause myself grief because of it!
I saved the three popsicle-stick boxes I made in the kindergarten room at the shelter, which was in a combined elementary and high school, and I also kept my little milk carton (they gave several of us kids little cartons of milk meant to give kids in school) and some other stuff. I brought my dad's defunct cellphone tp the shelter to play with, along with my stuffed bear Charity, who was wearing a blue t-shirt and a little boy drooled on her... my friend Jennifer's little sister Jessica named her pink care bear Charity, after my bear. She became as close to me as Jennifer was. There was a girl who sat with us who had two Nano Babies, a purple one and an orange one, that she kept clipped to her shirt. Jennifer's mother said I should have a nano bear, that they must be out there.

It was the year 2003 and I was 11 years old. My aunty, uncle, cousin and I were visiting Australias Gold Coast for a summer vacation. We were in Brisbane one day to visit the Ripleys Believe It Or Not museum. We went inside the museum, looked around and it was fun. Within half an hour, though, I noticed that I was lost.
I looked around the museum for about 20 minutes before I decided that my aunty, uncle and cousin must have left, so I exited to museum to wait outside and see if they came back to get me. I waited there for atleast an hour and they didn't turn up...so I decided to walk around for a while and look for them. One hour later, I was still walking around. I stopped a man in the middle of the city, in a tent type thing educating people about snakes, I thought it would be interesting to have a look, so I did. At the end of the show, he was collecting donations so I reached into my bag and grabbed a-hold of my wallet. When I pulled it out of my bag, I accidently dropped it inside the snake ring! Now, I didn't know what to do so stupidly I reached in and grabbed my wallet. Thankfully, I didn't get bitten by any of the snakes.
After this, I was hungry and walked inside a cafe and ordered some french-fries. While I was waiting for the fries, there was a man walking on stilts outside...again, another show that I needed to watch. I got my fries and went outside to watch it. It wasn't as exciting as the snake show...but was ok.
By then...I had been lost for over 4 hours and it was starting to get dark. I sat down on a bench and wondered to myself..."Am I ever going to be found?". Suddenly, my aunty turned up behind me. She was yelling at me, said she was angry at me and was worried that she was never going to find me. After a 10 minute lecture on wandering off by myself and how much of a bad idea that was, we went to meet my cousin and uncle back at the hotel. I swear, I am never wandering off in a foriegn city again!

I had a compulsive ocd for climbing things.
I lived near a giant open park with a few random maples or leafy like trees.
One had a trunk that was daunting-no low branches.
This is where I learned to master the trunk.
Branches! We don't need no stinkin branches.
The park was so big and so open and the area in an interesting vortex before where the seas meet the mountains. The winds blew. I wanted to be a bird or a kite. But I couldnt't. I could however try to see what a bird sees. I went to the highest branch that would hold me and climbed out as far as it would hold me. Hugging the branch I rode the wind, and escaped for a long while the disruptions of my mind.

I went to Laguna Beach one summer with my family. I had bought a boogie board in one of the shops, and when we went to go play at the beach I jumped head first into a wave with my board in a stupid attempt to ride it. It caused me to do a backflip and I landed bewildered in the sand.
When my parents told me how to ride it, I got the hang of it pretty fast and had a lot of fun. I did other things like building a sand castle and playing with little beetles in the sand, but the thing that stands out the most in my mind was my initial attempt to boogie board.
I remember staying up all night in the cafeteria with my friend, her little sister, and their parents and my mother. We ate all the rice krispies squares and had to be told a few times to be quieter because everyone else in the shelter was sleeping, most of them just on the other side of the thin wall.
My biggest adventure was 5 weeks hitching in france with no money, sleeping rough, begging in bakers for food, and scrounging in bins on motorway service stations. The first time i begged for food was terrifying. And every crumb counted. We shared it by a road near a beach in the south. On the way back/near the end a pickpocket working a paris train station gave us 10 francs each ( the first money in our hands for over 4 weeks; strange stuff it seemed too), and cigarettes, to move along because we were sitting against a wall people-watching right where he was. Didn't set foot in a HOUSE for the whole time. Felt very odd when came back to england.

Wow! January of 1988 was when I was born (January 1, 1988 to be precise). You must mean January of 1998.
Anyway, during the summer of 2004, I went to Europe with a music group and we visited seven different countries and had many adventures in each. The trip was a little over two weeks. I went to England, France, Switzerland, Lichtenstein, Austria, Italy, and Germany over the course of the trip and we performed in five of them.

Three stories i thought of while i was reading this thread, lets see if i can remember them now.
First was the great ice storm of .... some year in the early nineties. I remember they let us out of school early, at one pm or so, and as we went out to get on the buses i couldn't figure out why, it wasn't snowing or anything. but soon after we got on the bus it started sleeting. We hadn't even let the first kid off yet when the bus driver couldn't go any further. We pulled into someone's driveway and they let us come inside. It was kind of scary for my brother and i because we were both rather shy. We were there for hours and then they managed to get a couple people that had snowmobiles to take kids home. My brother and I got to go first because we were the furthest away. It was no fun because the ice pelted us in the face while we rode on the snowmobile. When we got home, the guy tried to walk us to the door, but my little brother wouldn't take his hand because he was a stranger and as a result he keep slipping and falling all the way to the door. Dad stayed at work that night and my older brother stayed with a relitive in town. Mom managed to get home but it took her hours. She had to drive really slow and she had to ditch the car and crawl up the big hill by our house on her hands and knees. (she still managed to beat us home though)
My oldest brother has a big rock formation on his property. Its like a big hill that got cut in half to leave an open rock face. Shortly after my brother moved there, my cousin and I (we would have been 10 or 11) climed up to the top of the him and then looked down the rock face and decided that we could climb down it. My cousin tried first but froze and couldn't go any further. he had to hang on there and i was too scaird to help him. Fortunetly my brother found us and rescued him.
When i was 13 we were camping on Rib Mountain in Wausau Wisconsin and for some reason i thought it would be a good idea to ride my bike down the mountain and go into town. Riding down was easy. but i got scared at the first stop light and turned around and went back (I grew up in the middle of the no where and had never ridden bike in town) I couldn't ride back up the mountain so i had to walk with my bike and it took hours. I of course hadn't told my parents i was going and i would have been in a lot of trouble if they weren't just so glad i was OK that they couldn't be mad. And now, if anyone asks, i can honestly say that i've climbed a mountain.

Last summer I went to another town at some club alone (celebrating someone who turned 25). At night when the club closed I was supposed to sleep at a guy arranging the club. Then at his apartment I had to go outside to smoke a cigarette and I did, but after I couldn't find the apartment he was living in, so, I had to walk around in the town. I ended up at a beach that stretches through all the town, and I sat there watching the sea ahead of me and played around with the sand around my feets.
I got kind of sad in some way, and started to cry. From nowhere three people appeared (this was 4am in the morning) and asked what i was doing there. "I want to take a bath in the sea" I replied. They gave me a hug and disappeared, then I jumped into the sea and it was nice then I went back to the beach and walked to the train station and fell asleep there. Woke up at 8am and had to wait for my train. I bought some beers and sat at the trainstation talking to birds and watching girls. (: at around 10am the train home appeared and i went home.
One of many adventures I've been on (:
