That’s how I feel about sitting in my car waiting for a buddy to come back from Crab Park.
I kinda wanted to go see it.. but he said wait in the car, because if you’re not known to the locals it’s getting pretty sketchy and dangerous as a bunch of these people are already living like it’s the apocalypse.
It’s a small park right on the ocean front near Canada Place/l, Waterfront Station, a rail yard and HeliJet port where there’s been one of the, if not The, roughest homeless encampment around.
It’s a little tent city in the park that I’ve seen from a distance during the day before. Apparently the types that live there include some of the sketchiest violent mentally ill people that aren’t currently in jail. Rumours of serial killers living there and people disappearing and bodies being discovered under tents etc - the kind of things that spook other street people from wanting to ever venture there because it can truly be That dangerous.
My friend that trekked in there 15 mins ago is just repaying a small cash loan to some friend of his. He told me he witnessed some guy get murdered there before - beaten to death.
So, even though I kinda wanna see what this sketchy cool sea air hell hole apocalypse encampment actually looks like.. I think I’m just gonna take his word for its danger level and just stay in the car and wait. I don’t need to see Actual horror movie type stuff that badly lol not do I need to get robbed or harmed in any way.
Regular street people in the regular sketchy part of town ? Whatever, no problem. Most of them are chill. But a high risk zone that multiple people have told me is a true no-go zone ? Mmmmaybe best to no-go despite my curiosity.
Crazy that such a place exists in this city.

I valued that experience of other lives.
Oh yeah, but it's different than the typical rough part of town.. I've spent some time there over the last year or two. MOST "normal," people don't spend any time there at all besides driving through.. it's looks like a bit of a war zone sort of.. people doubled over contorted in all sorts of drug induced positions, random shouting, sometimes violence, drug dealers everywhere etc. The only time I left one corner there later at night was when a chill drug dealer told me that the dealers taking over for the night were not so chill and are prone to violence if they don't think you should be there so best to move along.. gotcha; thanks buddy, time to go.
But this encampment is something else.. next level. People living like it's the apocalypse. Peopled wearing homemade armour and armed to the teeth for protection/security doing patrols.. protecting from outsiders but Also definitely some of the residents. They're gonna have another Hard cold wet winter doing what they can to get power/propane etc to keep one tent heated as a warming centre for survival. (I've read some posts online from a resident or two.) The place definitely intrigues me, buuuuut, if one of the outdoor folks I know says it's a bit of a no-go zone Unless you're known to people there and known as friendly then I believe him.. and my other friend told me about dismembered bodies being found there, women disappearing etc - stuff that never makes the news because no one wants to spook rich people.. stuff that makes street people in the Rough part of town that some other street people avoid for all it's problems of theft and violence avoid that encampment 100% because it's just too sketchy.. makes me wanna see it - maybe during daylight with an escort lol but definitely not solo and not at night ever. And maybe not ever at all who knows - unless Maybe with my one friend that has a friend there, who's facebook personality I've read stories from - I'd venture in there with our mutual friend to donate clothing/supplies or something maybe but otherwise I can listen to warnings and not go.
Place is so sketchy the cops don't even bother going in there anymore unless they Have To. Too dangerous, can't blame them. They fly drones over to have a look at what's going on instead.
