I can't get to sleep when in posession of a headache. I need pills.

I also pinch the fatty part of my arm near my thumb, that gets rid of my headaches.

For me it depends on the type of headache. A run of the mill stress headache give me 4-5 advil and a Mt.Dew and I am good to go. A migraine usually involves some meds to put me out for a day or 2.

It depends on the type of headache.

For a tension headache, generally pills. If a headache associated with the flu..then maybe pills and bed-rest.
Also you could just be dehydrated...so have a glass of water and that may make it feel better. You may be straining your eyes. Eg; looking at the computer screen/tv screen for too long...reading too much etc. If that is the case, then just take a break for an hour or so. If you are supposed to wear glasses all of the time...then do so. If you don't, that can produce headaches.

For a persistant headache...go to the doctors. For a migraine headache...take pills, drink fluids, bed-rest, stay away from the light. For persistant migraine headaches...again, go to the doctors.

A combo of the two (sleepills) will help you most.
