we won't (my wife and I).

We have outstanding student loans and they're in default so the IRS decided to give the amount we'd be getting to the creditors.

I wonder if we'd have filed separately, either of us would have gotten one?

Don't make enough money to have to file (less than $5,000/year) a tax return in the first place. Saw congessional hearings in which they claimed disabled people & veterans should get the "rebate" (?) even though they'd not make enough money to be filing at all-so wondered whether I qualify. My boyfriend filled out one of those short forms (federal return) for me & mailed it in, solely for purpose of getting the piece of stimulus package-don't know whether I'll actually get the "teeny dough" (small amount of money).

Edited to add this link, that I came across after writing the post.

Link may be too long/not work, title of article is: "IRS to help non-filers get checks"

I'll probably be getting about $300. Woo-hoo! I  free money! Even though we do have to pay income taxes on it next year

Well, you got me there. On the other hand, I'd like to get my teeth straightened and whitened. It seems to a mandatory thing to live in the USA. Every time I see a Yank smile, the reflected light is blinding.

I should be getting about $900, since the gov't already swiped my tax return this year for my $1,200 student loan (the tiny remains of what little I owed). I'm not counting on it, though. I never count my chickens until they've hatched. If I do get one, though, I will NOT spend it at WalMart. WalMart is suing a permanently disabled & brain-damaged woman (hurt in a car accident) for whats left of her settlement money from the trucking company whose truck broad-sided her car. She can barely talk, barely move, can't feed herself and she can't remember what happens from day to day. Her health insurance through WalMart paid her medical bills but now they want all that money back, and they'll probably get it from the remainder of her settlement money, leaving her with nothing to live on for the rest of her life.

WalMart. is. evil.

I'd sooner have universal healthcare than have this nonsense.

BTW, the Queen is welcome to come over and retake her wayward colonies at any time.

My wife and I were due over $3,000 but with both our outstanding student loans in default, we won't be seeing a dime.

This does not surprise me one single bit. :| My husband works for Wal-Mart and the stories he comes home with on how they treat their employees is a bit shocking.

We've already received our tax returns, but I'm not counting on seeing that $600 dollars that's being promised.
