Today is Imbolc, a pagan holiday. It was called several different names, depending on location. The Druids celebrated this holiday and on this day as all their holidays, they would forecast the weather from then until their next holiday. The next holiday is Ostara, the first day of Spring. I don't know if they watched for a groundhog or not, but I would imagine that somewhere down the line, they noticed that if it was sunny on Imbolc, then there would be more winter. If it was cloudy on Imbolc, then there would be an early Spring.

I don't remember where I read it, but I'll try and think of it if you want me to.

Wikipedia has a decent article on "Imbolc". Here are the first three paragraphs:

Wikipedia wrote:
Imbolc (also Imbolg), or St Brigid’s Day (Scots Gaelic Là Fhèill Brìghde, Irish Lá Fhéile Bríde, the feast day of St. Brigid), is a Celtic festival marking the beginning of spring. Most commonly it is celebrated on 1 or 2 February (or 12 February, according to the Old Calendar) in the northern hemisphere and 1 August in the southern hemisphere. These dates fall approximately halfway between the Winter Solstice and the Spring Equinox.

The festival was observed in Gaelic Ireland during the Middle Ages. Reference to Imbolc is made in Irish mythology, in the Tochmarc Emire of the Ulster Cycle. Imbolc was one of the four cross-quarter days referred to in Irish mythology, the others being Beltane, Lughnasadh and Samhain. It has been suggested that it was originally a pagan festival associated with the goddess Brigid, who should not be confused with St Brigit of Kildare.

In the 20th century, Imbolc was resurrected as a religious festival in Neopaganism, specifically in Wicca, Neo-druidry and Celtic reconstructionism.

I missed it altogether. Maybe I'll watch the movie and think what I'd do with myself if I could relive everyday over and over.

It's weird that Phil predicted 6 more weeks of a winter that never really was.

(It was 80 degrees here yesterday)

Tell me about it. It was more than 60 degrees here for the past two days... in Ohio! That never happens.

Yeah, but at least we're getting out of this horrible drought.

We have had about a week of cold, maybe two alltogether. Most of it was only in clumps of 4 or 5 days though. I have the AC on tonight and have had it on in the car for a while. A few mornings, the cars are frozen over but it's warm enough to be out with a sweater or even no jacket by later in the day.

I bet late Feb and early March are cold though. I also bet we have a really bad tornado season this year. Worse than last years. I hope not, but that's just my guess. It's completely off the top of my head, no date or theory behind it. Just a guess out of thin air.
