my father was mean to animals

I think that's why I love animals.

Once, he tried abandoning a dog as a University of Maine campus because he didn't want the dog and thought that some college student would adopt it. He figured that would be better than hanging the dog by the neck with a chain in the garage. When he dropped the dog off at the school, the dog ran after us so after a mile or so, I begged my father to pull over so I could rescue him.

A little while later, the dog was gone. I don't know what happened to it but I suspect my father hanged him.

It's amazing I even get along with him.

Some of the other things my father did that were questionable:

* Brought home a dead human embryo when he worked in a morgue.
* Look for things to spank me with - 2X4, wire coat hanger, leather belt.
* deliberately burned me with a cigarette at an airport
* promised to take me out of foster care to live with him but backed out at the last minute.

I grok and am sad for you. My das wasn't mean to critters. But he was mean to me and my sis. Beaten - without guilt - til we'd bleed. I don't get it.

I find depression always knocking at my door.

My father has been mean to animals all of his life and IS STILL mean to them. He came to visit me once last year. He talked about how he abused one of his dogs [i can't say how, it's too bad] and then laughed. Nevertheless, I yelled at him for it and told him what a bully he was. When I've visited him in the past, I have whitnessed him abusing animals numerous times.

He is apparently coming to visit me again soon. If he mentions abusing animals even once, I will not talk to him.
