Do any other aspies besides me have a laugh that sounds somewhat like hyperventilating? I do, mosy of the time, but I've also developed a "social laugh" which I use when I'm talking to people I don't know as well, or when I'm on the phone, because breathing doesn't really carry over as laughing, and you can't hear smiles.

I wonder how many people are going to contest the " you can't hear smiles" part of this.

P.S. Anyone who goes to the University of Idaho, please check out my post, with the same name. It is under the school section of discussion.

That's weird I'm an aspie and have a hard time laughing but my cousin who's also an aspie has this problem. I don't even think he realizes he does it.

I didn't realize it until recently. I've been listening to myself talk for these interviews I'm doing for research (I tape record them), and I finally realized how wierd my laugh is.

I chuckle when other people can hear, and I have a weird giggle when no one can

My laugh sounds kind of like hiccuping. It's weird.

I inhale when I laugh, making it a very odd laugh indeed.

I have a lot of different laughs depending on how funny something is, where I'm at, and who I'm talking to. Most people say I have a cute laugh. 8)

I can have a variety of laughs from the Elmer Fudd chuckle and the Butthead chuckle to the loud, noisy laughs of my siblings and my dad.

Usually I only have stigma to laughter. I usually can only stand to have myself laugh while in private space. When in company, I get really self-conscious and stifle my laughter. I may chuckle but I notice I'm beginning to chuckle like my dad where I chuckle behind my teeth, causing me to hiss while doing so.

I have different laughs, sometimes I chuckle, sometimes I laugh loudly and sometimes I laugh silently.

I usually try not to laugh out loud, but I don't sound too weird when I do (I think).

Our TA in a conference had a laugh that sounded like a donkey (I'm really not kidding; he did sound exactly like one), but when he started laughing hard, it seemed like he was choking. We'd all get concerned, which didn't calm him down any.
