I very regularly forget what things are called, or so it seems that way.

I can be speaking of something, even looking at it at the same time and I can forget what it's called.
I know that when some people forget words they say things like..."You know, the thingy over there,".
But when I forget what something is called, I not only forget the name of the object, but I completely lose all ability to compensate for that and to say things like..."the thingy"...or..."I forgot what it's called". I just sit there, open my mouth and no words come out!
This happened to me today when I was at the video store. I wanted to know if they had a certain movie available for hire...

Me: "Do you have the..."
person at desk: "The what?"
me: *says nothing*
person at desk: "well, do you want anything"?
me: *walks out of the store*

Does this happen to anyone else? How often?

It happened sometimes when I was a youngster. More of a problem if in a stressful situation or if someone was stood hovering waiting impatiently for a reply. On a school camping expedition I refused to eat something or other, forgot what, but the stern teacher was miffed at my fussy eating and asked me what I ate at home. Nothing came out of my mouth. It was strange but I couldn't think of a single thing I ate at home!! ! Eventually the word chips came out of my mouth and the teacher stomped off disgusted at my reply. A couple of weeks later I got a telling off from my parents because it seemed that I'd told the teacher that they only feed me on chips! So obviously there had been some dialogue between the teacher and my parents. So I got ridiculed by both my parents and the teacher. Strange how much trouble this sort of thing can get you into.

This happens all the time to me, when in conversation I forget words all the time, stopping in mid sentence.

It's annoying.

yeah me to?? :?

If I take a bit of a pause I can usually remember the word, if that doesn't work I think of another word or I change the conversation or pretend I'm having a bit of a joke. 8)

It always makes it worse for me because my friends will try to help me find the word I'm looking for, and they'll give me a synonym, and I'll say "Um...almost, but a stronger word for it...something that means more like (whatever)."

I always feel like Doc Brown from Back to the Future, needing just the right words for things ;D Screw those tiny little puny words.

My mother always says to me..."Sounds like...bike? hat? loo? cast?".....all of these random words.
