Ever notice when you argue with some people that they pretend to know everything you think and act as if they knew everything you had to say?

On a serious note, isn't that a feature of Aspie behaviour anyway? My wife is always telling me off for finishing off what she says to others or assuming I know what she is thinking.

There are also things which seem obvious to me and I somehow assume everyone shares the same ideas / beliefs etc and sometimes it comes as a surprise when they contradict what I say. It reinforces the fact that I don't know what everyone else really thinks. Still seems strange though.

One thing I have learned though is that not everyone is interested in achieving a consensus of understanding, they are often more interested in defending their own belief system at all costs like their life depended on it, rather than finding the truth of a matter.

Emotions spoil logic.

It happens on Facebook when dealing with NTs as well. Assuming you know what the other person has to say isn't just an Aspie trait, though we do seem to magnify it...

A few times, people literally have heard what I was thinking, and I'll swear up and down that I didn't say it out loud 8O My lips will even still be dried shut, so I know I'm not imagining it.

Oh, that really, really aggravates me! I hate it when I'm talking to someone and they interrupt me mid-sentence and say what they think I was going to say. It pisses me off because they are always completely wrong! I don't say predictable things. Does anybody?

Absolutely!! !! !! I would have thought that aspies were somewhat immune from this trait. Having had a couple of weeks to analyse this board, I now see that is most certainly not the case, and I was just assuming that others like me would behave in the same mannor. I learned to supress emotion at a very early age. Don't get me wrong, I still very much have emotion, but I am greatly inclined to supress it, and be sceptical of it. I am also learning how powerful a motivator emotion is, even for us aspies. I think perhaps the key is to learn better how to control emotion, and better use it towards our own ends. This would presupose that we indeed can honestly discern our own motive.

Regards,
