In September I bought a Laptop and along with it one of those cooling fan mat things. Now it's May 8 months from September and ONE of the fans on the two fan cooling mat was broke. (They were caked in dirt.) My dad used an air blower and it blew the pieces apart so I have 2 questions.

1.When should I clean the Cooling Fan mat so a new one doesn't develop the same issue?

2.How about the actual LAPTOP fan INSIDE the machine?

(I've heard of cans of compressed air but Laptops are in the 1000's so I don't want to screw up the INSIDE fan if I don't have to any tips would be appreciated.) :-) (Plus it's only 8 months old!! !) :-)

Hey! That wasn't a very helpful answer I enjoy the portability (Although mines more like a desktop replacement and isn't super light.) Thanks anyone I guess although you didn't help me one bit. :-( Oh well.

for the answer how often you should clean the lap top. can you really clean some thing to much. opening it up every day and cleaning it certainly would not heart, so the more you clean it the better. and clean every thing not just fans, dust insulates heat, heat lowers preformence in machinery and over time it will destroy it. so clean every thing not just the fans.

Wow, I've never heard of that happening before. Must've been a really cheap fan or something.

I wouldn't worry about breaking the internal fan on the laptop, I would think most laptop producers wouldn't skimp on the fans.

As for how often you should clean it, that really depends on how smokey/dusty your house is. I've seen some computer fans that just had carpets of dust growing on the heat sinks o_O
