I've noticed this happens a lot lately- popular, well known products suddenly decide to change their name for seeminly no reason whatsoever.
Examples I can think of would be:

-Jif= Cif
-Oil Of Ulay = Oil of Olay
-Juicy Fruits = Starburst
-Marathon Bar= Snickers

Can anyone tell me why this is? My philosophy is 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' so why all the pointless renaming? O_o
It's been driving me mad for weeks...

In the USA we have had Oil of Olay, Starbursts and Snickers all along, and Jif is still peanut butter here. "Juicy Fruit" in the US is a Wrigley chewing gum flavor.

Maybe you are getting swamped with American products all of a sudden, or perhaps some trademark issue got cleared up that is causing your products to be renamed to a new world-wide standard.

jif was changed to cif because it is a rude word in a foreign language, not sure which one.

am hate it when they change names, especially when they've been out for so long and have nothing wrong with them.

sometimes though,a name change can be for the better-what about petsmart=pets at home? which was changed because of all the animal cruelty and murder that went on [though didnt change in the us cause it didnt happen there],they got rid of all the bad staff and changed rules and name, and there's another one am can think of-a big breeding kennel place called dogs4all[?] forget what they were called but they changed because of neglect and cruelty if am remember right.

I'm pretty sure it was Opal Fruits.

Maybe it was different in Ireland?

I don't ever remember it being called anything other than Snickers. Not in my lifetime, anyway.

I can remember Marathon bars, and Opal Fruits being renamed to Starburst. Many people still refuse to use the word 'Snickers'. Ask some youngster to buy you a Marathon bar, and they'll have no clue what to get.

I can also remember Coco Pops being renamed to 'Choco Krispies' for a short while, but nobody liked that name, so they changed it back.

Oh God, I remember that, and the adverts on TV. Somebody had a major brainfart somewhere along the line...

I don't recall Coco Pops becoming Choco Krispies at all, yet I do remember Marathon bars becoming Snickers. Clearly my selective memory is playing tricks on me yet again :(
