I got apporved for social security disability benefits!

not that I like being disabled but if I can't hold down a job...

Anyway, I estimate they're giving me around $15,000 retroactive and I'll have to do what they call a spend-down which is buying approved things with it or I'll lose ALL my benefits including medicare.

So, I'm making a list of the stuff I'm gonna get after I pay the lawyer 25% of the retroactive check.

tempurpedic
LCD TV
blu-ray player
computer
crib
recliner

leaves me with about $5,000 to spend. I suppose I can upgrade some things like the computer and get furnishings and stuff. Oh, dishwasher and washer and dryer!

I wanted to do that-but I didn't want to feel useless
my father didn't care how I felt and wanted to see if I could get it while still living at home so I could pay him rent
I said you can't and I refuse to apply anyways-I need something to do with my days

Now that I've seen that pic of the Prof, I can't stop hearing that topic in that voice :)

Kudos to you for the benefits. I'd imagine it's a big help, even if you don't like the label.

What's wrong with paying them rent? Mine did the same with me. You're an adult, adults pay rent to their parents when they have jobs except for when they are going to school. Its not fair to people to have to support their adults kids and they don't even have jobs. That's one of the reasons why my mother signed me up for it when I was 18 because it was my last year in high school and it was help to help me become independent and so I wouldn't feel like a burden to my family because of no job. But at least it took pressure off of me of having no real job. It was tough finding one.

I'm thinking about filing myself. I managed to work for 12+ years, and I don't think I can go back. My depression is just too much to handle, and work at the same time. I would get $1,400 per month, if I get approved. I can live off that. Hmm.... :chin:

I got a letter from SS today which says they have decided 100% in my favor but I applied on 6/26/06 and they're finding I became disabled on 12/31/03. Will they give me the retro from 12/31/03 or from 6/26/06?
