I've done this with a few people... For the longest time I was mixing up Dinko and Social Fantom because they always seem to leave similar comments and their avatars are both kind of mysterious. I also got iamnotaparakeet mixed up with some other person on here with a bird as their pic (I forget the persons username).

Do any of you guys tend to get people mixed up? Or did you in the past?

Yeah I think people are the same person regardless of what their name is or their posts..

I do that in real life too, I think people are the same person until I notice the differences in them more.. half the time they don't even look alike :/

I sometimes get a bit mixed up when people change their avatars. I more remember people by their avatars

I get mixed up, especially when the poster has a user name similar to someone else or if their profile picture is similar.

Yes, when names are similar-and/or when someone changes his/her avatar. Too many people to keep track of (whether there are 19,000 or only 1,000 active members here). Fortunately, this isn't a cocktail party & no one expects me to recognize/remember them-nor am I trying to make a strong impression on anyone else.

I get people mixed up when they change their avatar. The strange thing is I perceive the person differently too and it can change the way I respond to their posts. Pat666rick seems to have undergone that biggest transformation

When I first joined, I would get wsmac and Mw99 mixed up due to their similar usernames - turns out they have very different personalities! Then, more recently, I was getting ebec and iceb mixed up. Let's see . . . who else . . . oh, Trigger + Ticker + Digger. Glad I got that sorted out. Those 3 are very different from one another!

It's funny how people who choose similar usernames are usually so extremely different in terms of the personalities and subject matter they express in their posts.

Oh, I guess the exception (sort of) would be JohnsHopkins and JohnPipe. They have similar usernames and they both post about music in the AWM forum (or used to, anyway), and I think they both used that penguin avatar for a while . . .

Those stock avatars that anyone can choose from really throw me off because sometimes I just look at the avatar.

My brain seems to remember both the username and avatar simultaneously. If I don't recognize the avatar, I glance at the username, and update my memory. This only applies to those I've seen around for awhile. If that makes any sense? :)

Makes a pile of sense to me. But I notice there are tiny details that can throw me off sometimes, can be anything really, some odd little detail that makes me think of someone else when I first see it.

I'm one of a kind.

I think I have done this a few times myself but I don't remember any specific cases.
