Hmmm...Bruises?

Not sure if it is true but....

Quote:
Apply ice as soon as possible. When you cool the blood vessels around the bruised area, less blood leaks into the surrounding tissue. Flexible gel-filled ice packs, specifically designed for injuries, are available from sports shops and athletes will usually keep a couple of them in the freezer. For most of us, a bag of frozen peas wrapped in a towel is perfectly adequate. Or soak a flannel in ice-cold water and lay it over the bruise for 10 minutes. Whatever chilling agent you use, remove it after 10 minutes and wait for 20 minutes or so before you re-apply it so you don't overchill the skin underneath.
Remember that if you have bruised your arm or leg, immediately wrap an elastic bandage around the bruised part. By squeezing the tissues underneath, the bandage helps to prevent blood vessels from leaking. The bruise will not be quite as severe.
Reduce bloodflow to the bruise to minimize discoloration. If you bruise your leg, for instance, and you can take a break, settle into a sofa or armchair with your leg up on a pillow above heart level. If your arm is bruised, try to keep it propped above heart level whenever you're sitting.
Start applying heat after 24 hours of cooling the bruise to bring more circulation to the area and help to clear away the pooled blood. Use an electrical heating pad for 20 minutes several times a day. Be sure to follow the instructions on the heating pad: in order to avoid burns, the pad should be placed so that it lies on top of - not under - the bruised limb.
Alternatively, you can apply a warm compress either under or over the bruised area. A hot-water bottle will work. Or use a microwavable heat pack, available from medical stores or online.
Vinegar mixed with warm water will help the healing process. Vinegar increases bloodflow near the skin's surface, so it may help to dissipate the blood that has pooled in the bruised area. Witch hazel will also do the trick.
Apply arnica ointment or gel to the bruise daily. Arnica is a herb that has long been recommended for bruises. It contains a compound that reduces inflammation and swelling.
Take a handful of fresh parsley leaves, crush them and spread them all over the bruise. Wrap the area with an elastic bandage. Some experts claim that parsley decreases inflammation, reduces pain and can make a bruise fade more quickly.

I certainly remember hearing about the arnica before. I'm not hugely well informed here but maybe there are foods you could be eating which would give you more fuel to heal the contusions faster?

Vitamin K (phylloquinone) is found in green leafy vegetables such as broccoli and spinach and is essential for blood to clot (according to some web searching).

Also I found mention of-

you can try the citrus bioflavonoids, which come from the white pulp of citrus fruits to stimulate circulation.

One from experience- I don't know if you are a smoker but I have always found my bruises heal slower when I am smoking regularly.

Good on you fella. I don't have the self restraint or the inclination at the moment.

I do recommend iron rich foods like spinach though and possibly red red meat like jerky or bresaola with plenty of fruit to get your vitamin C levels up. My girlfriend bruises easily if she becomes anemic and these foods seem to have aided the healing process.

Ya defiantly increase your iron intake, and get some vitamins in you, K for the hemorrhaging, maybe take magnisum citrate which I have been taking for my metabolism, its useful for deficiency symptoms including insomnia, confusion, muscle cramps, high blood pressure, kidney stones, its also a metabolism booster, also drink a lot of water, or green tea, which is full of bioflavonoids, stop drinking coffee and pop, as they actually tend to dehydrate you, so the bruises heal slowly.

Well hope things get better for you. My computer keeps going out...I don't know if I'm going through a meltdown.

Still confused with the terminology meltdown.... :?

You sure it isn't anger or depression?

Arnica is great for bruises! I've used it a lot, since I tend to bump into a lot of things, and I don't notice till later. I generally have to check myself in the a.m. after my shower to make sure I haven't really injured myself. So far, so good.

Arnica - definitely check it out. I get it in a non-greasy cream/ointment and I apply liberally, especially before going to bed. I also tend to cover the area overnight with a bandana or bandage of some kind.

When my bruises have started to turn green, I apply hot and cold cloths, alternating between them. It causes your circulation to speed up and slow down, having a "flusing effect" on the bruised area, and that makes them look better,
