I discovered earlier this year that my beliefs, previously thought by me as being some kind of agnosticism, are actually Deist. I basically believe in a non-religious, uninvolved "God".

I'm bringing this up, because I guess I wanted to see how many other people feel the same way. Also because I see a lot of debates between religious types and supporters of the sciences. And I wonder why science, specifically evolution, conflicts so much with someone's religion, other than just contradictions in text? I understand that science is contrary to teachings in religious text, but accepting science does not mean a religious person has to totally discard their religion.

So I use my own thoughts, ideas, and philosophy to consider where something like evolution might come into play with a supreme being... sort of as a "spark" to jump-start the process of all living things. And not just evolution, other physical developments that are explained in science as well.

Thoughts on this?

well im not big on evolution as is currently explained by scientists, I read a book called The Selfish Gene, and I didn't agree with it.. mind you it didnt fully explain evolution, but what i did read didnt make complete sense, and it did at the same time.. i just flat out didnt agree with it.

But i suppose my beliefs are rather like that, believing God without being religious.. im sort of in between agnostic and that.

Evolutionary theory, like other fields of science, is an ongoing study. A search for how things evolve. Many people confuse Evolution with Evolutionary Theory. Evolution is the observed occurrence in which lifeforms change over time, while Evolutionary Theory is the ongoing study of how evolution works.

I'd rather say that the categories aren't mutually exclusive.

I've heard of deism, but uncertain of what it entails.

Basically that God never gets involved in the Creation after it was created.

Well it's basically an uninvolved God... that my life and others are not controlled by the gods. That if in when there was a beginning, what needed to be created has already been created. But not based on a religious text.

I was referring to the hardcore left and the hardcore right. Sorry if I offended you, or wasn't clear on what I was saying. :)
