OK, how did you wire it up? There should be 3 wires. Ground, Ignition and Memory/permanent live.

If you can turn it on with no keys then you wired up the Ignition and memory the wrong way round. This is where I would start

That JPG looks like the "Dancing Men" cipher, made famous by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle in his book "The Adventure of the Dancing Men.

Uh, the 3 wires should be wired to the 3 wires coming... Red is usually Live, Yellow is permanent Live and Black/Brown is earth.

Earthing should not be done by attaching to metal frame but by other means such as with the loom. This is where you COULD be having problems.

When you wire it up. Secure the earth, and then go for the other 2 and play with the power function with ignition on then off. If the radio fails to power on at ignition off, then you have it correct.
If it powers on with the ignition off you have them wired wrong.
If the memory settings are wiped with ignition off, the live/permanent live have been wired wrong - not dangerous.

When wring like this, just have it close to the hole it will go in so you can remove it and gain access to the rear.

The radios I've wired up have NEVER failed on me. Last radio I had to do was my brothers a few times. Wired mine up back in 2005, no problems since

There are 3 wires for correct operation

One to return feed to battery/alternator
One to allow power when ignition on
One to keep memory/settings when ignition off

Each of these have one place to attach to. What car do you have? If you can provide a picture at least I can assist you and/or of the wiring loom/harness

OK, that's me telling me nothing. I see you have the Red and yellow wires coming from the car's main loom. From what I remember yellow is ignition and red is live. If you can provide model number for the radio, I can look into it's loom far more accurately.

I see you have the Citroen BX (as it's referred to in the UK) French cars are generally not very good, I've had a fair few of them in my time.

The two wires are definitely needed for the power, sometimes it will only power up if both are connected. Try swapping them over. There are only 2 ways to wire these up. Sometimes the radio will not power up if the wires are the other way round. Have you tried testing for power from ground to both live wires when ignition is off and switched on? (use caution as incorrect testing can cause sparks and maybe fire in certain cases)

If you were closer to where I am I could wire your radio up in 5 minutes
