I have been wondering can lyrebird be kept as pets??? I mean is it legal??

For those of you who don't know what a lyrebird it is a bird who can mimic almost any sound pretty much perfectly. I think only the males do it but females might also.

Sounds great. But if you can't keep them as pets, where would you get one?
There's a park in Chinatown where old men bring their caged birds in warm weather. They hang the cages from the trees, and the birds sing, one song after the other, the songs of hundreds of other birds. It's beautiful. I'd love to know what kind of birds those are and where to get them- unless they brought them over from China. But you'd think they'd have started raising them here.

That is animal torture. Really bad animal torture.
Any bird that is caged, is a victim. It is not
beautiful, it is horrific and sickening. If you dont
think its torture, please please please never get
an animal you are in control of, it will suffer alot
because of you. If there was any justice in the world,
the old men would be hanging caged from a tree,
or be burried. Do you think the birds sing out of joy
or out of stress and terror from the situation they`re in?
Its stress. No joy there. And one thing, the chinese
have a loong history of torturing animals in the most
horrific ways, not the right people to look at as examples
when getting and handling pets.

To me that is an impossible way to think
but thats me. Humans do whatever they
want on the cost of others and make up
"good" reason for why they do it so they
dont have to feel bad for doing it. It
sickens me a little.

You're right, it's selfish.. but speaking for he human race, who isn't selfish?.. my brother has a cat, and the life that the cat lives isn't what I would choose for any animal.. but who am I to say otherwise?.. Cat's and dogs are not yet treated as equals to humans.. they are pets..

I know, its a hopeless naive dream that all creatures
live together in harmony, with the food thing and all,
but the way todays society handles these things, the
attitudes humans have towards this in todays world
is grotesq, and it just gets steadily worse there
are other ways of handling things then what we do,
much better ways but we are lazy and selfish so we do
the easiest thing 90% of the time. And its just an animal,
so who cares anyway - we`re humans, thats so much
better apparantly. We are the king of the hill, the mean
bully that spread fear and terror when looking at the big
pic. I would not want to be an animal on this planet,
that has to be pure hell in many many many cases. Or..
wait a minute, i am also an animal.. flesh, blood and instincts
just like the rest.. weird, what makes me so special being
"human"..

no you're right, there is some cruelty out there, but I don't think caging a bird falls under that category IMO.. inflicting pain and suffering is though.. Ive known bird owners, and you cant own a bird without having a birdcage, or it would fly away.. I know that says a lot about where it wants to be, but really it is a pet.. im not cruel to animals i love animals.. but all love for animals in the form of a pet is selfish.. unless you live in a jungle or something..

Im totally against harming bulls and setting them loose and spearing them and all that stuff that goes down in Mexico.. Im totally against the cruelty to animals at Zoos, and at the Circus.. there is definately a fine line between domestic and desperate.. domesti pets are cared for where as the latter aren't..

*hugs* dont be sad sometimes you gotta hit the kid who's bullying your friend.. to animals we're gods, if you like bible study.. and with great power comes great responsibility..

Yep, it would..after a while its so broken it wont even try that.
When putting myself in its place i have trouble handling it,
its too cruel. But this is an opinion, not arguing just always
had a "thing" for this since i was a kid. I started noticing alot
of pain and fear in animals i met, there was so much hurt there
it was hard to look away and not care, and the more i looked
the more gruesome it got

hear you loud and clear sport.. it is very sad if you have that kind of connection with animals.. but there really is no way of preventing it.. you can try and convince the world that they should not have birds as pets, but i doubt that they would listen..
