It's the first time I've ever donated blood. (And probably the last time I ever will.)
The needle they used was big and thick, and when the nurse inserted it into my arm, it hurt like crazy.
I had to repeatedly squeeze a squishy ball every 5-10 seconds for ten minutes (actually more like twenty minutes. My blood was apparently not flowing very fast) to keep the blood flowing. Every time I squeezed, my arm muscles pushed on the needle, causing it to hurt even more.
Although I am happy that I gave "the gift of life", I don't think I could do that again any time soon. I'm too much of a wuss.
Ahh, check off another item on my list of things I should do at least once in my life.

I used to give blood, and have even gone through plasmapheresis (donating plasma and platelets only). I have a very rare blood type, and for a while it was much in demand.
But ever since the last time, I've not wanted to go anywhere near a blood donation site. The people were rude, officious, and generally treated me as if I were an imposition on their valuable time rather than a person.

Woudn`t call it donating, but i have spilled some here
and there up through the years a liter here and a
liter there, mostly without wanting to - dont think i
have ever given to a hospital, but i might have done
and just dont remember - i do remeber some nurse
talking about something like that one time but its
fuzzy at best
Isn`t there a saying, "no good crying over spilt blood"
or was it milk.. I have however had spinal fluid drawn
out of my lower back with a massive syringe on a couple
of occations with no pain meds whatsoever. That, hurt like
a ********* on wheels it was just horrible - they heard
my screams 3 floors down - and of course, of all the things
i forget, those memories stick like crystal
isn`t it just typical - i`ll promise you one thing, getting a
tattoo on the spine was not easy to begin with after that
experience that felt really uncomfortable for the first 1/2
hour, all i could think about was those hellish spinal fluid episodes
as i felt the vibration from the needle in my bones

Our boss at my old job would hire the bloodmobile to come to the theater and collect blood donations. She required all employees to donate blood, but minors had to sign a permission form from their parents. I didn't get mine signed, of course. I don't care for huge needles.

I always feel good after donating blood. It's not altruism or anything like that. It's a physical high that lasts for a day or two. I should donate more often.
One time, they gave me a prize - a stuffed toy that was meant to look like a drop of blood. They said his name was "Mr. Clot", or something like that. I thought it was the best thing ever, but then my dog got a hold of it and tore it up.
There are places where they pay you to give blood.
And plasma. Some people donate plasma so they can pay the rent and get something to eat every once in a while. Ever noticed all the sketchy plasma donation places in ghettos?

I've had friends who supported themselves by selling their plasma. And I've come close to doing it, but I always found a way to scrape by and didn't have to.
Now I might try selling my plasma at a place that doesn't seem sketchy - mostly just to see what it feels like.

You can sell blood and plasma but I'd rec' not doing it for rent just a booster b/c you can and buy something nice... I try not to need money beyond my pay check it's not easy though... And not to seem gross but being a male I have a third option to sell for extra cash

Actually, my closest friend who sold his plasma to survive had tried to sell his "man-juice" first, but they rejected him because they said he was sterile.
