I commonly hear about random statistics, many of which are outlandish or unexpected. Where can I find (legitimate) these actual statistics or studies? I have spent countless hours on Google trying to find these, I have found pay sites that might or might not have the answer (could spend a fortune to get nothing, I'm just satisfying curiosity any way

Example:

Heard about a study proving that high intelligence has no statistical bearing on survival or prosperity (wealth). 8O

Think statistics tend to be inaccurate, not sure where to find any good source

Statistics lie somewhere between science and whim depending on how studies are performed. They are only slightly more reliable than rumor. They can, however, provide insight otherwise unavailable.

I don't believe in statistics, just like I don't believe in onomatopoeia.

Yeah...I don't always believe what is put forth without some data. Usually articles try to prove their point by putting down the name and numbe of each page and document to clarify their "fact". So I don't always believe in people's statistics unless they can back them up with more than one clairification.

I simply believe what I want to believe. Screw the facts! Screw the laws of physics (this one has gotten me a significant hospital bill)!

Well I've heard enough that IQ positively correlates with income that I'm pretty sure that's hogwash.

Did you hear it in a newspaper? Then, generally, it's probably junk and not worth researching unless they provided a source to the original article.
