Usually when I post to threads, if I see it's more than 1 page I could end up reading an 18 page thread, never knowing when to stop. I unconsciously read it all and then I feel like I've lost time. That's why I've thought of replying only to little threads. I can't stop myself from reading lots of pages and then feel bad like I've lost time.

Biggest problem being that when I've finished it all, I've actually read it mechanically never really understanding: "should I stop?", "is it worth reading more? When should I reply?" lots and lots of questions.

Don't read *all* of it. That'd be a waste of time. Read the first few posts, and the last few. If you have any questions about what people are saying, than read back a little bit. If It's a small thread, you can read more. There are some pretty large threads on here. It would take much much longer than is need to read through them all.

1.- use egosearch: http://www.wrongplanet.net/forumssearch ... earch.html
2.- Skim, just read parts of other posts,
3.- do a quick check to see if they are old

Threads go off topic after the first 2 pages anyway. Insanity usually sets in by page 4.

haha! I usually skip posts by people with no avatars, because they are all the same dark mass to me and I don't recognise any of them :p

I just try to pay more attention to posts made by regulars by looking at their usual avatars.

Yeah, the main reason I try to read them all so I don't 'cross post'. But after a certain amount, the chance that I can contribute a fact or different point of view goes down to nuthin'...;)

I just read the OP and then a few replies and then make my own. I can keep on reading after I make my reply. Sometimes I read the last reply first and then read the next above it after reading the OP. I rarely read all the pages. There has to be something interesting for me to read it and I usually skip the long replies unless it's interesting.
