Who here loves female warrior/superhero characters in books and films? I can never get enough of them - strong, independent, intelligent, proactive women. I hate weak female characters, or female characters that need to be rescued by men, or their sole purpose in life seems to be to fall in love and marry some romanticized prince or high profile male. What say you all?

Alice Kingsleigh from Alice in Wonderland (2010)

Refuses to be part of an arranged marriage in Victorian England and cuts the head off of a dragon. Needless to say, she's my hero(ine).

One of my favorites is Geena Davis' character from The Long Kiss Goodnight. She was the first one to come to mind.

I've always been a fan of strong female characters but all of them are from video games like Samus, Kazooie, Kumatora and Elaine Marley.

Is their a single major female character in a comic book, graphic novel, or whatever that isn't drawn like a porn star?

Anyway, how about a real warrior queen? Even if she did ultimately lose, she sure put up one helluva fight.

Quote:

Boudica (play /ˈbuːdɨkə/; alternative spelling: Boudicca), also known as Boadicea /boʊdɨˈsiːə/ and known in Welsh as "Buddug" [ˈbɨ̞ðɨ̞ɡ][1] (d. AD 60 or 61) was queen of the British Iceni tribe who led an uprising against the occupying forces of the Roman Empire.

Boudica's husband Prasutagus, ruler of the Iceni tribe who had ruled as a nominally independent ally of Rome, left his kingdom jointly to his daughters and the Roman Emperor in his will. However, when he died, his will was ignored. The kingdom was annexed as if conquered, Boudica was flogged and her daughters raped, and Roman financiers called in their loans.

In AD 60 or 61, while the Roman governor, Gaius Suetonius Paulinus, was leading a campaign on the island of Anglesey in northern Wales, Boudica led the Iceni people, along with the Trinovantes and others, in revolt. They destroyed Camulodunum (modern Colchester), formerly the capital of the Trinovantes, but now a colonia (a settlement for discharged Roman soldiers) and the site of a temple to the former emperor Claudius, which was built and maintained at local expense. They also routed a Roman legion, the IX Hispana, sent to relieve the settlement.

And I'm too lazy to look her up, but the Queen of something or other advised the Persian emperor (Darius? Cyrus?) on the disposition of the Persian fleet -- specifically to do exactly the opposite of what he was doing -- which ultimately lead to a crushing naval defeat of them by Athens.

Had he followed her advice the whole 300 business woud've mattered as much as a fart in a windstorm. Even if they'd fought to a draw the Persians would've been able to land just about as many troops as they wanted via water, pretty much anywhere on the Greek Agean coast.

My favorite real warrior queen is Isabel I of Castile.

My favorite fictional female warriors are Sailor Moon and the Sailor Scouts, and do Linka and Gi count? As Planeteers, they are, after all, heroines.

Xerxes, Artemisia, Salamis.

I'd go with Alyx (and by extension Mary Gentle's Ash.) And Halo Jones.

My favorite heroines/female warriors are the following:

From TV shows: Batgirl, Sailor Moon and the Sailor Scouts and Xena.

From some video games: Bayonetta, Lara Croft, and Miranda from Mass Effect 2.
