How do you come up with usernames, screenames, etc. ?

I find it incredibly hard to come up with a screename. In the end, It always ends up being some form of my name. I cannot for the life of me come up with anything else. What is your "criteria" for coming up with a username/screename?

mine's always the same because this one is never taken. I got it a couple of years ago from a website that takes your name and gives you an 'elvish' name. I was a pretty big Lord of the Rings (movie) fan a while back and I got really into all that stuff.

^ Ah, I thought so. I can always spot the nonsense words that are supposed to be elvish, there seems to be a few of them on wrong planet.

Mine's just the name of a writer I like.

I have more trouble finding a good password than a username.

I go by what I like. I have gone by Calico because I have a Calico she is no longer alive. likedcalico because a random MSN name I chose because Calico was taken. Bad Beth because I felt like I was bad because of my anxiety, Beth because that is my name and Spokane Girl because I love Spokane and it's my favorite city and of course diapergirl becase I like to wear diapers.



I went on a forum and trolled on it for a bit going by the name Anita because I was pretending to be her out of 101 Dalmatians. I think I should be Joon next and go psycho on there and pretend I forgot to take my pills or rant about mt emo life because I have a over protective brother.

It justs pop into my head at random.

Mine actually has a bit of self-symbolism. It is in fact the old title of my story, now called Outcast. It's an acronym of the five main characters at the time:

Koise
Booger
Aiko
Bob
Zoe

I chose it because it was short, simple and easy to remember. Pffft, yeah right! I use it everywhere I go because, like mitharatowen, it's NEVER taken!

Tim_Tex is a screen name I use only on here.

Nearly everywhere else, it's TimHomer20xx

Besides this username, typically I would try to choose one that has different parts to it with meaning. For example say what you really like is um, cheetas or something. An alternate word for cheetah in a thesaurus is Acinonyx. You could use that and add a number, and the number can be random, or stand for something. So 774Acinonyx477 for example.

Also, you could take your real name, and bend it.
For example, my name is Rick. So my username could be generick, euphorick, lyrick, etc.

There are so many ways to come up with usernames, you could even use a name generator by searching the web.

mine is of an 80s band. I typically use different screen names at places or common ones. One can find out neat stuff about someone, if the person uses the same screenname everywhere

unreal, I don't support encouragement of usernames with numbers tacked onto the end. It just looks tacky to me!

Usually I use my nick name. This time, I used Seize the Day. I saw something that said 'Epilepsy: Seize The Day' It was supposed to be humorous, I thought it was funny, I have seizures, so I thought it fit me....now I think it is a dumb username...
