Once someone in grade 9 drew a caricature of me looking really gross and ugly and labeled the parts-- "glass eye" (I have two real eyes), "wart" (I just had some zits, no warts), "mole" (sure, it was unsightly, but not that bad!) He also drew snot coming out of my nose (inaccurate, believe it or not... I guess he talked to people who were in elementary school with me and they told him about how I was always getting up in the middle of class to use the kleenex box... there were some silly rules about what we could and couldn't have on our desks.) To add insult of intelligene to insult of looks and hygiene, he tried to act all innocent and make me believe that someone had given it to him to give to me, or that he had intercepted it from someone else or found it!

Once one of my enemies in grade 9 told me that she'd seen my mom, who was good-looking, unlike me.

In English class in grade 9 these girls who were in my enemy crowd were sitting at one of their desks, which was next to mine, and one of them commented about how another one didn't need to wear makeup. She said that what really bothered her was when people who didn't need makeup wore it, "and when people who NEED IT don't WEAR IT." (She said the last bit with a slightly raised voice and directed in my direction.)

Once when I was overweight my father said that I was huge, after lying and saying I simply looked healthy.

I am so sorry....forget all that stuff - ok? I like you. I have no idea why another would feel 'justified' in saying anything of the sort to someone. What are NT's (not) thinking? That's just mean. And superficial.

No one says anything negative about how I look, but I might be distinctive looking (I am considered pretty). But, NT's sure feel entitled to otherwise insult, gossip, etc. They can be deceptive. I especially hate when NTs pretend to be your friend when they're actually not. I cannot gage if someone likes me or hates me. I have been HURT by some who do this and I cannot ever forget. Worse, I have no verbal recourse and I am not a vengeful person at all. I just feel hurt and cry. Then I blame myself when they do not like me (specifically, that I am autistic).

But, my autism is my strength (I am a strong and diverse analytical scientist), and my identity. The dilemma is existing in a socio/harsh NT world. Ana54, I guess you can relate to that!

Recently my 5 year old niece told me my face was really disgusting and gross because of my acne. She got in big trouble with her mom for that one.

Just recently my friend's daughter called me fat... she was only 2 or 3 years old.

It was funny, I was just sitting their talking to her dad... she comes up wanting father's attention. I smile at her and try to be friendly... she looks uncomfortable... she whispers "dad... he's fat."

I will often make fun of my own appearance... I admit I do look goofy... and it can be used to elicit laughter.

One time this really fat kid with a mullet, a southern accent, and an ACDC shirt called me a "nerd" at work because I wear glasses. However, I didn't find myself very insulted since that kid was nine kinds of pathetic.

My friend told me a funny story once. He used to work with a guy that looked like Cornelius from The Planet of the Apes movies. Everyone started calling him Cornelius behind his back. This new guy came to believe that was his real name and called him that to his face. The ape looking guy was like "what? my name isn't Cornelius!"

What I've learned is that people will focus on things that they know you feel bad about, even if they aren't really true. I had a "friend" who did that to me, once when I was a captive audience in a hospital bed.

Some friend! My ex told me in all seriousness one day that I was "deformed" because I have a D size bust. He also tells me I'm fat from time to time and that I need to diet even though he is twice as fat as me. I also got told at various times when younger, "you'd look so pretty if only you'd wear make up and get your hair cut short"

My 16 year old daughter keeps telling me I should get my long hair cut short because I look "terrible" with long hair. A friend told me I didn't look very intelligent and an Aspie guy at work said that too.

Fortunately, I know some other people who are supportive and think I look fine as I am.
