While many - especially those in the North East of the United States - are shoveling snow off their driveways and getting totally whited out with blizzards, spare a thought to what the weather is like in Australia

I hope it lasts for a while. I'm about to go to VIC for a month to take a break from the winter here in the US.

I could come back with a dark tan or burn, and pics like those. Make all the shivering warm weather types jealous!

Clarification #1: In Australia it is currently Summer
Clarification #2: This only applies to the southern half of the country (specifically south east corner, we copped it the worst), the top part is always above 30 degrees and humid around now. This isn't humidity heat. This is heat heat.

release_the_bats - you could come here next week, that is forecasted to be mere mid 30s all week (I am in Melbourne)

Where I work the air con broke too, wheee.

Yeah it is quite hot at the moment, I have made the decision to not go outside, it is quite cool in my house despite no aircon, I also think I should especialy stay away from going in the cars, as they can be like ovens. Not that I hate summer, much prefer it to getting frozen, but atleast in winter I can just put more on, I have been drinking alot of fluids though.

I am in a fairly built up area with a lot a bituman and cement around and subject to the urban heat island effect and so it is usually a big warmer. Especially when there is a frost a fog or a heatwave. At the moment at my place it it 42.6 degrees Celcius (109 deg Fahrenheit)

My friend in Melbourne said it was 42 the other day! I said, "Right now, 42 C sounds a lot better than 42 F. No more wool hats and space heaters! Yay!!"

I am, in fact, coming next week. I can't wait to go outside without all the layers. And it's not even that cold here - around 50 F by day and 40 F by night. I just prefer hot weather / summer.

Pah! I can barely leave my house thanks to the ice storms.

At least I still have power, which is more than most of my city can say.

I plan on getting a pair of thongs upon arrival. Maybe something to wear swimming too.

It's REALLY nice to be traveling internationally to a place where it's so hot. It'll make it easier to travel light. Less clothing to pack. Maybe I'll even be able to fit a pillow and small blanket in my suitcase for optimum couch-surfing!
