Some of you may have noticed that my posts are getting longer and longer, there is a reason for this.

I am able to "type" faster than I've ever typed in my life before I had this neurological disease I was able to type pretty damn fast. However back then I didn't type with very good grammar in English. However in the last few weeks my arms began deteriorating the first sign being pain in my arms, and weakness. And I knew that soon my arms are going to completely fail, and no longer allow me to type at all. So I went to MacSpeech.com creators of MacSpeech Dictate based on the same pioneering software Dragon NaturallySpeaking that is used by many people with disabilities like mine.

With this software I am able to get a days work done much quicker, which leaves me more time to spend on wrong planet and other websites having fun, instead of slowly and dutifully performing my work. I used to stay up working from 11:00 AM until sometimes 4:00 AM in the morning. Today was the first day that I had to software for 24 hours. And I am for sure going to continue using the software on a full-time basis. You may ask why? Well the answer is I finished a full days of work today between the hours of 11:00 AM and approximately 6:00 PM. That means I have gained almost 12 hours. I can now go to sleep not worrying that I have left work unfinished.

I am the kind of person who cannot go to sleep unless I feel that I have accomplished the days work. And today I feel that I have accomplished the day's worth of work and much more.

So I leave this thread kind of as a memoir of my accomplishment with this new software.

Goodnight everyone.

That's awesome! I remember when voice recognition technology was new and it sucked. Was still fun to play with but not practical. Great to hear that it has improved and is helping people :D

Strapples, I was just thinking you and thinking I haven't seen on this forum much lately.
I haven't been around too much either, so I guess that could be another reason.

Fantastic news - voice activated typing - and more free time on top of a good nights sleep(?) knowing you have accomplished a reasonable days work.

That's awesome man! 8) I can tell that you're very greatful, and that is always good to hear. I hope it works out well for you, with your endeavors, but I think we already know that it will. :)

I'm glad the software is helping you. I'd been wondering where you had got to, no posts from you in the off-the-wall forum for quite a while.

Im sorry to hear about your arms, Strapples, but I'm very glad that you've found voice recognition software that works so well.

Those programs have come a long way. I remember when they couldn't even get a very simple, clearly pronounced sentence right.

Definitely about those of you who are mentioning that the problems of voice recognition's faults in its previous years. I remember when voice-recognition was crap, and it still is in certain places, take for example the health insurance companies phone system, that thing makes you want to take out a 12 gauge shotgun and shoot something.

Yeah, I've had to deal with phone systems like that. And yet our public bus company's phone system is a breeze to use. Obviously the technology is out there, but not everyone's using it yet.

Yes, and it allows me to "type" with better grammar and faster than I could type even before I had my disease!

Ha. And I should learn to proof read before I hit submit! "Expressive yourself" ...yeah, I meant to say that.

I am thrilled to hear how well it is working for you. You are obviously such a dedicated guy. I don't know many who would put in as many hours as you do to finish the tasks you've been given. You deserve to be able to have free time to pursue other things that interest you. Enjoy those free hours! :)

I use those free hours, like now, for things like WrongPlanet and other things that are not part of my daily task list. Currently I am working on a letter to help me explain to my parents my need for stims. And also looking for a lead apron as I am going to ask for one for my birthday!

Also being I feel I have completed my day's work I am able to go to sleep easier, but not much easier, that's where the lead apron will come in. ;)

That sounds fantastic! I'm curious though, if you lose the ability to use your voice muscles, what will happen?

When I lose the ability to use my vocal muscles, which won't happen for at least a few years, there are systems that will allow me to control the computer with my eyes. These systems are a bit slower to type with, however they will lease allow me to get my basic business done. Mind you not everyone progresses to the point of loss of speech. Loss of speech is pretty rare in unknown diseases. Therefore I hope that I won't lose the ability to speak. My arm still work right now and I can still type, but I type quite slowly and with a lot of errors. Therefore I enjoy using my voice recognition software much more. I still have to type for certain things such as system commands and server commands and website addresses. How are the voice control software has reduced the load on my arms by over 95% probably.

Thank you for your inquiry ebec11. Hope to hear more from you.
