I have always been a animal person, but my current dog is the first dog I've raised since she was a puppy. She's a Jack Russell and is very much a lapdog. She sleeps with us and is almost always in someone's lap. (My husband I both work from home). She is the sweetest dog ever.

Most nights I sleep with her in a headlock - like a teddy bear. When I travel I miss sleeping with her even more than sleeping in my own bed.

At least a few times a day, I recharge my batteries by curling up with her for a few minutes. We call it pet therapy around here. Sadly, I guess, I hug and kiss my dog way more than I hug and kiss any of the humans in my life.

My mom and others give me very strange - almost disgusted looks - the way I hug and kiss that dog. I understand their revulsion, but it is so therapeutic. I think that's the oxytocin flowing.

Anyone else have this almost unnatural relationship with a pet? (I bawl like a baby during "Eight Below" - whereas Beaches makes me want to puke)

Yes,am like that, have always had a profound connection with cats, and am friends with them,am have used a charity before called PAT [pets as therapy] they say they come to residential homes, but refused to come here at first because this is a LD/challenging behavior res.home, they expect to meet the cat and their human somewhere else first and it's up to the individual cat/their human if they want to come to the home or not.

Animals are used as pyschiatric assistance pets in america [not sure about here] because of their abilities to calm and make better- the people, and am know that there has been a lot of calls to get cats seen as assistance animals in this country.

Animals are just completely awesome and there is no end to how great they are,and what they can do for humans.

Me and my dog are very close. I talk to her, sing to her, hug her, kiss her, sleep with her, play with her etc.
