I just thought this was an interesting youtube video of why we think animals are cute on an instinctive level.

The video is just white :? I think your avatar is cute, or like a cat some evil person would have on their lap. Are you a dominatrix? :P

Quite true, but ironically enough, while a puppy or a kitten may trigger nurture instincts, a small human triggers an integral part of any man's emotional repertoire: the "dead beat dad instinct" - also known as "Not mine!"

I agree, MissConstrue's avatar cat is nicer. It looks sleeked and brooding. 8)

You know I feel so guilty in saying this but I find animals way more cuter than babies even rodents. Only when a baby is smiling or cooing at me do I think it's cute.

I don't know what's wrong with me........ :?

Nothing wrong there - quite the normal. Evolution has taught us to nurture cute things so we will tend to our offspring, but it has inexplicably overlooked the possibility that we might discover a superior surrogate. A relative of mine for example has found that her (extremely cute) sheltie is a satisfactory object for all maternal impulses she might ever have (disturbingly anthropomorphizing at times).

An interesting case to be considered in terms of "cuteness" is actually humans: Humans are pedomorphic (neotenous), bearing in several ways a resemblance to younger versions of older Homos (if you look at a very young chimpanzee, it's bone structure is much more human like than an adult's). This property of of humans led one author I was reading once to remark something to the effect of, "These first humans probably looked strange to Neanderthals; in fact, they may have looked a bit cuddly."

Am I the only one who can't see the video? It's possible because I just got my computer fixed.
