"I hate clowns"

Do you hate clowns?

I heard the funniest piece of dialogue last night on NCIS. One of the mean, cynical, pretty, female agents said "I hate clowns." I wasn't paying attention to the plot but that simple, perfect line jumped out at me.

I know this has been discussed before - but I really do HATE clowns. And I don't hate - I've had it pretty much beaten out of me by self-help gurus and PC teachers and parents.

Since clowns really are sick and creepy - but they're not "real" - I think its ok to hate them.

The only clown that makes me laugh is Krusty the Clown. But even there - one of the funniest episodes is when Homer makes Bart a Krusty the Clown bed and Bart is terrified of it.

Well, maybe except John Wayne Gacy,
now that was a not so fun clown

John Wayne Gacy probably ruined it for clowns. I don't feel like looking it up, but we could probably track the decline of Bozo's career against the Gacy case. (mid-70's-ish?)

Between Gacy and those scary clown paintings of around the same time - too many negative images. The one in poltergeist sealed the deal.

Oh - I forgot one I like! The Jack in the Box (fast food restaurant) clown. I used to have a antenna ball but it faded and got too ugly.

They're so pointless. I was near terrified of them when I was little and they like to force themselves on people anyway. Yes I hate them.

Wasn't there a study done a while back that found that clowns were pretty much uniformly disliked by even (especially?) children?
