Well not in my yard. But there was one across my canal today.

I heard a whooshing sound like the air conditioner and I glanced outside only to see a hurricane force wind blowing out back.

I live in Florida so i know a hurricane force wind when i see one.

I got up and looked out the window, and the wind started forming a circle and bam ! A dust devil appeared in the neighbors yard!

The only reason it slowed down was because the neighbors have a septic tank and it makes there yard have a hill. once the dust devil hit the hill it dissipated.

It was way cool!

Growing up in Arizona, I've seen plenty of dust devils. Never one accompanied by hurricane force winds though 8O

Never had one around here. But I'm in a city/subarban area, too. Anyway, we recently got tropical storm force wind here a few days ago. And two totally different places in the state got tornadoes. Welcome to Indiana, the state where you can get twisters all year 'round! Even in January!

That is so freaky!! ! I'm right above you in Georgia and I've been saying all day its tornado weather. Really warm, quiet, and cloudy...literally - the calm before the storm.

I'd better check the Weather Channel,

We have quite a few tiny dirt devils as well as black devils in Alberta.

no.
I did think about grabbing the camera I'm borrowing from my parents.
But I knew by the time I got it it would have been gone
and I really wanted to watch it.

Its so funny that I was thinking about showing wrong planet when I was watching it.

lol I have no life.

So there aren't usually big winds before hand?

That's the whole reason I was looking out the window. The wind was so loud that I heard it inside.

It was almost like the wind started the devil.

I'm not sure how they normally form but that what it looked like.

It was sunny. There were a few dark clouds way up but not enough to cause the devil, I don't think anyways.

It's funny because an hour later I checked the weather online to see if there were any warning's but it said there weren't any. Maybe I checked to late.?

A giant sweeping dust cloud formed by gale-force winds. Haven't seen one in a while but I remember one roaring towards me when I was in the backyard. Very hard to escape them once you see them when you are in the open.

I have a spooky feeling it's going to be a nasty tornado season. They are so scary because there is not a lot of warning. The best we can do is hunker down in the basement and watch the news. Fun the first couple times - but it gets really old, especially during a busy tornado season.

And we're due in my area - its been about 10 years and so every year that goes by now increases our odds we're up next. I'm scared now...

Happy Friday the 13th, y'all!
