Might have to adopt out my Turtle.
I might have to adopt out my turtle. I was roped into her and another turtle in december of 06' when a friend went on a "rescue mission" in Chinatown. The other one died after falling from it's basking area. anyway, Leo has gone from just over the size of a half dollar to a little smaller than my closed fist in a really really short amount of time. I was pretty sure he was a boy, until I re looked it up today. It seems that if She was a male, right now she'd be sexually mature and we'd be able to tell, with things like long claws and an indentation on the underside of the shell, and a long thick tail. She has super short nails, and a short tail. I'm pretty sure Leonardo Da Vinci is Leonarda. She'll eventually need special care because she'll lay eggs. It's a lot of work, and she will soon need a new tank. I can't afford a new tank, and then she'll need an even bigger one. My dad had two the size of large dinner plates when he was young, and they couldn't even fit in the sink. I think she'd be better off in a big tank or pond with other turtles.
a couple years ago I would have been selfish and kept her. But I know I cannot take care of her the way she'll need. I don't even spend any time with her as it is.
What do you guys think?
PS I also have a Rabbit, an elderly Guinea Pig, an elderly dog who is 17-18 years old, a female dog who is having leg problems and we can't afford to take her to the vet yet, and a cat.

No don't adopt her out. Wait a few years and see where things are.
here're my thoughts... you see, you fed her and took a really good care about her if she grew up so big. she will not be able to find food for herself at once and other turtles may treat her as a weak one, so i'm afraid she could die soon if you let her out. my bf keeps two turtles and they are perhaps as big as yours. he had a 120 l aquarium with stones and water for them and they had enough space to swim and to rest on the stones when they wished. now he has to keep them in a smaller one, 40 l. of course, it's not enough for them but they feel fine, eat well and continue to grow, not so fast though. he's going to buy a 300 l aquarium for them soon. you see, they adapt to the space they live in, so they will remain small if they are not placed in a big aquarium.
so how big is the tank you keep her in? may be it's still big enough for her?
if it's getting too narrow for her and you can't provide her with a bigger one, than you better bring her to anyone who wil keep her in a big tank. she will be treated well this way. but, seriously, just adopting her out is not a good idea.
hoping my advice will help you. good luck!
