Idols are for worship, and I do not worship idols. However, there are a few people that I admire greatly (listed in no particular order): Albert Einstein; Mother Theresa; Ludwig von Beethoven; Gaius Patronius Arbiter; Eithne Patricia Ní Bhraonáin; The Mahatma, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi; Sir Isaac Newton; The crew of the Space Shuttle Challenger; General George Patton; King John of England; Queen Elizabeth II of England; Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart; Galileo Galilei; Dr. Jonas Salk; Dr. Arthur Flemming; The Mayo Brothers; Carol Burnett; Luciano Pavarotti; Abraham Lincoln; Charlemagne; Saladin; William Wallace; the person who invented the cheesburger; and Mom.

I prefer not to use the word "idol" because, to me, that implies that the person is somehow beyond human.
I have a few people that I admire a lot, and when I need inspiration to do my best, or to do what needs to be done, despite my fear or inertia, these are the people who come to mind.
1. Alan Rickman
2. His Holiness, the Dalai Lama (despite his "holiness", I admire him as a man, who has overcome many obstacles, with integrity and gentleness.)
3. Julia Butterfly Hill
4. Jimmy Carter
I'm not sure if I can think of a fifth one right now.
