Bonjour ! Quel fruit est rouge quand il est vert?
(I found the riddle with the first word spelled quelle, by a native French speaker. That's how I learned the masculine and the feminine are pronounced the same; and so are the singular and the plural, for that matter, with those silent final s-es. It's funny how spoken French has all but lost grammatical number in nouns and adjectives, though its ancient writing system insists on preserving it. Also, the spelling mistakes made by native speakers of languages with awkward orthographies, like French or English, are quite helpful for non-native readers to learn the pronunciation of words.)
