Yiddish for crazy woman. The male version is meshuggener, while meshugga or meshugge just means crazy (neutral).

I learned meshugge while reading "Alan & Naomi" as a kid, and looked it up later.

That's also the plural of Latin lignum ('firewood'), which evolved into the main word with the same meaning in several Romance languages, like Spanish leña, Portuguese lenha, Italian legna and Catalan llenya.
