For oily skin you might want to try good old steam it will clear the pores and help with the oily skin. I uses to get a big pot of water on the boil and add rosemarie stick a towl over my head and stan over the pot. The only thing is you must have the stove off first or you'll light the towel on fire < did it once>. You might want to try diffrent things in the water that smell nice to you or make you happy lemon peal would be nice too :)

My skin was awful until I stopped using soap and used brushes instead- I find there's just enough shampoo and conditioner in the bathwater to get clean. I make massage bars too using beeswax, lavender oil, veg oil and cocoa butter which I use after a bath to seal in the moisture, but my probs were dermatitis and scratching which I think were associated to sensory issues. Letting my skin do its own thing rather than put up with endless smearing of cortisones was the best thing I ever did, but my skin has been dramatically thinned by the bloody stuff....

Some people are allergic to salycilic acid (god I can't spell it!), which is an active ingredient in many oily/acne cleansers. It makes some people break out even more, especially if you have reeeally sensitive skin.

I heard though, that willow bark extract is a good natual astringent (the skincare line Boscia uses this ingredient, and it is a natural line).

Otherwise, try wearing clay or mud masks or mattifying gels. Those help with oil control.

Because of multiple chemical sensitivities, I no longer have the luxury of using all the cool stuff out there for women's skin. So, I use Castile soap, either liquid or bar, or olive oil with a drop of castor oil. For the oils, I warm them in my hands, and then gently massage my face and neck for about five minutes. Then, I take a washcloth, wet it with very warm water, and wring it out. I gently wipe off the oil, rinsing and re-wiping until I get it all removed. I usually use the oil when I've been wearing make-up. Castile soap is wonderfully gentle, and lathers beautifully. Goat's milk soap is another good one. I find that as I grow older, I don't need toner. I moisturize with Aloe gel and jojoba oil. Oil of Olay doesn't bother me, so I use that sometimes, as well.

Ah! That may be why when I use them, my skin peels quite a bit as well. And I do break out more when I use it! Thanks! I will definitely try the clay masks instead. See how that works out.

Thanks for sharing this! It's a great technique to use every two weeks or so if you have oily skin/big pores.

I do a variant of this: I actually have a facial steamer designed for this purpose: it's bowl shaped to fit your face and the water boils in the bottom. When you get nauseous or stuffed up: try water with a bit of eucalyptus oil and breathe in the stuff: it really helps the sinuses.

More for oily skin: the only thing I use on my face, neck and chest is Spectro Gel. It's a bit expensive, but over time it's really helpful in getting rid of pimples. I limit soaps, shower gels and lotions to parts of my body under the bra line only: any further up and I will break out!

I have very dry skin to the point where it can be quite sore and uncomfortable, especially in the winter, but a pure olive oil soap and a beeswax moisturizer help.

I just discovered the amazingness of clay masks with kaolin as a main ingredient. Works wonders!

tons of chemical sensitivies too and wondering if that means I can't do anything but moisturize, cleans, exfoliate for aging?! I'm 35 with dry skin and I feel like my neck is "sagging" already. I don't know why. Pretty bummed out about it, but not willing to put harsh chemicals on either.

I do sugar scrubs and in general stuff I mix up in the kitchen with olive oil, almond oil, liquid lanolin, whatever I have on hand. We just got some shea butter and I am liking that okay though if I put too much I break out. Seems much of what I try will make my eyes water or my skin break out. I keep trying though!

Yeah I do...I've struggled with acne for the past decade or so, and for a time skin was was one of my obsessions. I learned everything I could about the physiology of human skin, acne, sun damage, aging, etc...read literally hundreds of studies.

Anyway I ended up taking Accutane three years ago, which helped with the acne, and to prevent it from coming back I use a retinoid (Tazorac 0.10%) on my face every night (it aslso keeps my skin looking very young.

For a while all I did was wash my face, moisturize and use the Tazorac at night, and use a moisturizer with SPF 15 or SPF 30 during the day. I've added an antioxidant serum and a lotion containing 2% salicylic acid (to get rid of the retinoid induced flakies)...and I still wear at least SPF 15 sunscreen on my face everyday. The only chemical sunscreen I can tolerate is oxtinoxate, so I usually look for products that contain either only titanium dioxide and zinc oxide...or octinoxate with zinc oxide for UVA/UVB coverage...

I get compliments on my skin all the time. I'm 28 an my dermatologist says I have the skin of a 14 year old...could also be do to my lack of facial expressions though.

Anyway...my skin care process is one of my favorite twice daily rituals.

As for the skin on my body...I wash it in the shower, and sometimes I mositurize...I don't do much else....oh, and sunscreen if I go out in the sun...but that's about it....

I have a thousand allergies so I wash my face with Kirk's Castile (all-vegetable, unscented soap especially for hard water) and exfoliate with the scratchiest washcloth I can find. I then apply Retin-A to my problem areas and moisturize with St. Ives Collagen-Elastin Moisturizer. If it's really foul I just polish off a layer with a Buf-Puf (gentle). I also avoid chocolate and dairy which make me break out like crazy.

I used to use various stuff on my skin, but I stopped using anything and just wash with a washcloth and water now. My skin is less oily and my zits are almost gone~
