Wearing a uniform kind of takes all that away. Scrubs come in a variety of colors, but they are still limited colors and limited stores carrying same, so there is every chance in the world at work that at least one other person is going to show up in the same color. One day we all showed up in pink, INCLUDING the doctor, LOL! If we see someone wearing the same color, its always the same joke "I see you got the memo [to wear that color]".
Otherwise, I think it has to do with how women actually see themselves, to tell the absolute truth - women dress for other women. We pick an outfit because it looks good on us, and it becomes our territory. It shows up on another body, we immediately start comparing ourselves to someone else - nothing to do with the outfit, everything to do with how we are raised as female, and how we are "supposed" to act. I like the way belly dancers think - or at least how I took it when I took the course anyway - that every body is beautiful, and that it was our job as women to support each other, instead of tear each other down. I think that should start with clothes, we can work up from there...
