Quote:
Being female means that you (generally) HAVE to buy these things that men don't have to:
Bras/sports bras
Pads/tampons
Make-up (at SOME point in your life)
Purses
Birth control pills
Medicines to combat menstrual cramps and bloating
Co-pays for doctors that specialize in female areas (OBGYN's)
More money for hair-cuts (yes, salons charge more to give women hair-cuts most of the time)

And, in order to be fully accepted as a woman in society, you need to also buy many of these things:
More pairs of shoes (heels, fancy boots, etc.)
Waxing kits/tweezers/lady razors which wear out quickly
Perfumes
Hair products/tools for hair styling
Jewelry (though, men put out the expense to get gifts for a fair percentage of this)
Exfoliants or some sort of moisturizer to look young (society likes that)
Hair dye
Dresses and/or stockings
Manicures (optional, or course!)
Various colors of clothes with shoes that match

Honestly, the truth is people pick and choose these things. Yes, if you were high femme you would think these were necessary to fit into society, but honestly, they are not outside the sanitary and medical needs.
If you think this is what you need to be fully accepted in society as a woman, that is a perception problem on your end. The truth is most women pick and choose.

As somebody stated there are much more important struggles that women go through.

I agree outside of sanitary and health needs, the rest are not necessary.

Even without all those things in the OP (because I don't do most of it), women's clothes are often more expensive than men's clothes.

Some of us simply can't wear men's clothes. Some of us simply can't go braless.

However, men often want big expensive toys.

Personally, I think it balances out.

I would agree Women spend a lot more on themselves regarding looking good.

Men however, have manly things to do, and these things cost a hell of a lot of money.
Heres some examples of things men have to spend money on.

Snap-on Torque Wrench $321
Britool socket set £91.95, and thats without Whitworth sockets!
Myford super 7 lathe £4250 (second hand).
Second hand, (at least), Norton Commando £7250 LINK FOR NORTON COMMANDO FOR SALE

Gibson Les Paul electric guitar £1775
Bosch PSB 650 RE Compact Impact Drill £60

At the moment Iam having my car resprayed, I wont tell you how much the bodywork cost, but the respray alone will be £5000

No wonder you women can afford so many shoes!

Anyone ever notice how absolutely impractical women's clothing is, even when you're buying outdoors type clothing? I was trying to find a good insulated jacket because I've been working outside so much recently, and every single women's jacket I tried on was so super thin and ridiculous, I couldn't believe it. I would then try on the male version, and it would be 10 times warmer. I usually buy all of my jackets from the men's section now because women's jackets are always so ridiculously thin, albeit more attractive.

That may be in the UK, but here in the US warm women's jackets are pretty easy to find. I think it may be because we have semi-arctic climates like Wisconsin and Northern New England here in the states.

PS. I am a musician. Guys are not the only ones who buy guitars, its a false assumption. I own two custom made electrics, an aluminum neck guitar, and a top line seagull acoustic. I also know a ton of women who own musical instruments and donate equipment occasionally to girl's rock.

In terms of energetic investment (energy in one form or another is the currency of all interactions in the universe) most female species produce and synthesise more chemical processes which are additionally, of a greater complexity than males. This occurs particularly in mammals.
Disregarding the superficial and variable uses of capital which depend largely upon sociology and demographics, females are required to bare young, which constitutes by far, the most significant energetic risk investment in terms of their own energy. If the female does not bare young, it is usual that she will be chastised for it and receives isolation from society which exists to provide communal protection for the propagation of species.

The fact that women are still, (albeit subconsciously) viewed (often by themselves as well as others) as nothing more than machines for the propagation of human genetic material is visibly reflected in the quantity and type of products aimed at women – specifically regarding their appearance and ‘maintenance’.

My mom did before she had to sell it in a move. She's regretted not being able to take it with her ever since.

That thing was AWESOME.

I really seems like most people have just assumed that because I meantioned certain things, that I always buy them. That is SO unfair to assume that. I have never had a manicure in my life and never plan to, I get body sprays for gifts, the make-up I buy is cheapie stuff under 5 dollars. I don't dye my hair anymore (went through a rainbow hair phase, and I did it myself.) I also don't buy a million pairs of shoes and lots of clothes. The ones I do buy I get at places like Wal-Mart. But most I get for Christmas. I hate it when guys look at me with lusty eyes and say I look beautiful. They have no idea what I am like in my mind and seem to have no interest in it. Honestly, I frown at those that spend tons of money on all those things. I am well aware that not all are needed. But society and the media do put a lot of pressure on women to put their appearance first. It's so aggravating. As much as I wish it were not true, women do have to try to look good to be accepted. I don't like it, but that is the way it is. I have learned that first hand. I dressed like a boy in high school because I liked it and didn't care what anyone else though, and I got teased a lot and had very few friends. So, rather than attacking me just because I am stating something, why would you not just ask me why I listed unneccessary things, or if I really buy all of those things?

And, yes, I am well aware that other things are more important. I have had surgery to remove cancer, had corrective bone surgery on my foot. Now it doesn't function like normal and anything but flats hurt a lot. It hurts me every single day, especially at the end of my shift at work. I am a cashier and stand all day. But I put up with it because I need money to buy myself good food, pay for my doctors appointments and medication, and buy tokens for the bus to get to work and school because I can't afford to get a driver's license and a car. I had septoplasty to help my sinuses drain because fluid backed up into my ears and I was always dizzy (still am all the time.) I have a permanent back injury because I got into a physical fight with my step-dad 5 years ago and I have slight sculiosis (it's just not severe enough to do anything about it or be noticeable to the untrained eye). I struggle with relationships because I hate romance. Last week I had a tendon herniation removed by a surgeon and x-rays taken of my wrists and the week before my dermatologist removed another piece of skin from my shoulder, requiring stitches that made it extremely difficult to carry my schoolbag to the bus stop and through school for 2 weeks. Today I am having MRI's on each wrist because my ulnas are longer than they should be. If that is the source of my wrist pain (called ulnar side impaction,) it will be a life long struggle to deal with, possibly meaning yet another surgery. I also have to pay 500 dollars a month for my insurance because my insurance company's contract is not renewed until July so I still have to pay for coverage even though I am under 26. Without insurance, I could not afford my medications. I make so little money at my job, that my mother is the one who has to pay for most of it.
So, I am not some dumb, ignorant chick that prioritizes her appearance over medical neccessity like many of you seem to think. I really thought that this messageboard would be different than others I've been to. I always get attacked on others, and that's why I no longer visit them. I would appreciate it if no one would call me whiny for posting this message. I am just trying to explain that I understand more than you think by reading my first post.

Reading your first post I actually wondered if you really bought all things or if you were being humorour/sarcastic or something. I'm an aspie, so I take everything literaly!
I know most of the things on the list are necessery if you want to be accepted as a woman. I don't comform to society's expectation for a female and believe me, I know what it's like to be treated like a piece of crap because of it, so I can really sympatize with what you went through in high school. Did you mean in your first post that it costs more for a female to be accepted as a woman than for a male to be accepted as a man? A lot a us in this forum are very literal and we're not very good at reading between the lines.

I wish you luck taking care of your health and I sincerelly hope I didn't write anything that offended you in my previous post.

Beer, hookers and vaseline cost money too.
