Anyone here been through this?

I started going through it about three years ago and it was a breeze- not half as bad as some women I've talked to about it, but I still get hot flushes/flashes  that are disturbing my sleep. I read somewhere that flushes only happen for a couple of years but mine are getting worse. I've tried herbal stuff - black cohosh, vitamin E, but nothing's worked. I'm getting so tired, because I'm waking up about 5 or 6 times a night.

do you feel though that you're losing something that you'll never get back? does that thought upset you in any way? just curious...

Losing what? The ability to reproduce? Honestly - no, it doesn't bother me at all. Actually I feel better/fitter/healthier now than I did 20 years ago.

I went through menopause several years ago (I don't remember how many, but more than three, definitely), and I'm still getting hot flashes. They almost went away for awhile, but now they're back. I'm starting to wonder if they might be caused by something else. Pain in the ass, unless it's cold out.

Other than that, though, as you said, an easy and totally positive experience. Here's to crones! 8)

I had a mini-menopause five years ago thanks to severe stress. At the time I had extensive hormone testing done that revealed high cortisol levels throwing off my pituitary gland's ability to regulate the timing of the other hormones.

After a change of job and location, my stress level is reduced to the point that the night sweats are gone and my periods are regular, but I still have some problems with daytime hot flashes and mood swings. I wish my body would just hurry up and get it over with.

The herbal remedies help some, but exercise has helped more. I'm not sure why, though.

Oh, thank goodness! Aspies with menopause are a truly rare breed in a wrong planet of rare breeds! I am so thankful the last 11 years of menopause is over. I don't flush or power surge anymore, I can't remember the last period. . (oh, wait, I do! it was on my 52nd birthday and I remember thinking that the Goddess had a great sense of humor cause I hadn't had a period for about a year and a half before that!) I remember thinking how DO women put up with them, anyway.
But I didn't do hormone replacement therapy. . .(thank goodness because now they think that was the big push behind breast cancer!) I remember some guy doctor saying to me "oh! you still have your uterus" like it was supposed to fall out or something when you got to a certain age. He gave me a fist full of hormones to take 'just in case I started menopause' and so I can see where people with less suspicion of doctors would just take them ( I didn't) because they were told to.

So I remember menopause being not as bad as I thought it was going to be. But then it is the nature of my syndrome to magnify issues as I experience them and to minimize the issues after I am no longer affected by them.

I had a surgical menopause and tried for a year after to deal with the hot flashes and mood swings with black cohash, soy beans, estroven to no avail. I was timing the flashes at 15-20 a 24 hour period lasting about 2-3 mins. Night time was a mess with sheets soaked through had to turn the pillow over. Jeeeeezzzz. I saw a Doc and he said that was severe so I began hormone treatment at half the ordered dose and feel so much better.
