The purpose of this thread is to warn other Aspergirls of gynecologists that did a pap smear test that was painful. Pain can be both physical and psychological. Unfortunately, many times this test has been compared to rape. Please list the doctor's name and address/website. While the doctors may have the best of intentions, they may not have the skill to handle AS patients due to sensory issues. Perhaps this will help sensitive NTs as well.

Part of the problem with this thread is it doesn't address what area you are referring to in the world. It sounds like you are asking for a list of unprofessional or bad gynecologists that is extremely scattered. For example, a list with bad gynecologists in London will not help Americans, bad Finnish gynos will not help Mexicans, etc. Pick a country at least.

This list is mainly intended for the US. However, I see no problem with having people from multiple countries post, because if there is a big enough list, I will move the data to a searchable database. If even one person avoids the trauma that would be caused by an unskilled or even unprofessional doctor, then that is progress from the current state of having no reference list.

It is my understanding that there is always some discomfort and pain involved in the exam, as the speculum is used to get a sample for testing. There is no way to do it without pain on a conscious person, and they don't put you under anesthesia for the exam. Of course some docs are better than others at it, and the size of the speculum matters, too, but there will always be some pain and discomfort. The tissue inside your cervix is not hardened to the elements to any extent, as your outside skin is. Rather it is tender like the skin inside your cheeks, and perhaps even more so.

Unfortunately, this is the burden we must bear to be checked for STDs, and cancer. :(

Is it necessary to get a pap smear if you are a virgin?

Sometimes, like as a baseline. It makes sure you don't have 'structural' issues. I got a TB baseline test done before I went overseas, and I've always equated the two since they were done in the same period of time (over about 6 months).

I had one right after Gardisil came out as a prerequisite for the shot (they hadn't started the argument for it in schools yet). I dodged it while I was on the pill as a mood stabilizer. You're supposed to do them every 2 years or if you have abnormalities, but HPV seems to be the major concern.

please do not name doctors in a thread like this as it could be slanderous. i would advise people to research doctors if they are concerned, and there are even many tools online like "Rate My Doctor".
