I like long skirts. If it's above the knee, I won't wear it. However, I have several skirts (long, like I said) that look very nice with an appropriate top, and thankfully don't look girly at all. (I think my favorite is a bright orange skirt I have, which goes with a partially see through orange halter top. I'm very bright those days. :))
As for dresses, I only wear them on a formal occassion, but I do like to look nice if I'm going to a dance or for Conformation or something like that. On a normal day though...no. I won't wear them.

Normally I like to wear pants, but on occasion, I'll wear a long skirt or sundress. I don't like short skirts because I have to be careful how I sit when I wear them. Most of the time, when I dress up, I wear slacks as like Temple Grandin, I prefer fabric between my legs.

As a child, I loved to wear dresses and skirts, and as I loved to play on the monkey bars a lot, I wore shorts under them. Most girls who played on that equipment did the same thing, so I wasn't alone.

I have a couple skirts that I like, but in general, it's so hard for me to find clothes that really fit me nicely, that if I can find any article that fits and feels good, I'll hold onto it tenaciously. Right now I have two skirts I'm okay with-- one is long and one is just below the knee with a low waist. There was a third that I can't find anywhere, but it too was just below the knee. The shorter skirts also give me incentive not to scratch my legs (one way I stim) so that's another reason I hang onto them.

I dislike shorts or any skirt above the knee because they make me feel too exposed.

However, generally I prefers pants because I like to sit cross legged, and you can't really do that in a short skirt.

I would sometimes wear dresses over pants, like women in the middle east, but it's hard to find pants that work well like that.

Also I have lots of baby gates put up all over the house, so I have to climb over them a lot-- also easier to do in pants.

Pants are better in the cold, too.

As a child, I seem to remember I hated having to wear dresses...in fact, I have a photo from when I was 10, in this nasty pastel yellow dress from Laura Ashley, my face totally pulled into an angry sulk...tempted to post that actually haha. I hated that dress but my mother would decide what I wore on evenings out. I remember that when I was about 8/9, I lived in a grey ghostbusters tracksuit... it took much pleading for me to allow my mother to wash it.

I hated skirts still until recently, but then I went through a sort of gothic phase where I fell in love with those long, flowing skirts and dresses with lace up fronts... nothing tight and none of those garbage bag creations, mind. Oh yes, and I wore a lot of skirts at about 17/18 when I was anorexic...the ethnic style ones...but I would never wear a tight long or a tight short skirt. They have to be long and loose, and I hate anything that clings to hips or waist.

I'd probably wear long skirts if I were thinner. However I would never wear a mini-skirt with leggings, as I think that's just plain ugly!

I too, like skirts. Long flowy gypsy hippy skirts with either elastic or drawstring waist. My mini skirt days are long over  Not that I ever liked them anyway.

I likes a good medium length A-line or circle skirt.

unfortunately you may not have a choice someday. I am forced to wear dresses when I am invited to certain places (and can't turn It down because not showing up to weddings and stuff is seen as rude  )

I've seen plenty of people wear nice pants outfits to weddings and such. You should check around more. They usually have something in the better stores or the bridal shops. There are always nice jackets with mandarin collars over silk trousers. Those can be very dressy and acceptable at weddings and such. I can't think of anything where you absolutely couldn't get away with some kind of dressy pants outfit. My mother had terrible vericose veins so she always did this and no one minded.

Yeah, but if you were asked to be a maid of honour in your sisters or best friends wedding, and she choose the dress she wanted her bridal attendants to wear...Would you refuse to be in the wedding because you wouldn't wear a *skirt*?
