If it were merely a question of how I
liked it, I would say "down." It feels nice and swishy and soft. I can touch it and stroke it. It feels feminine. But I have to wear it up for practical reasons.
Most men naively assume that if a woman has long hair, she can just let it down with a swoosh and effortlessly wear it down all day long. It simply doesn't work like that. Life isn't a Disney cartoon.

I voted up, but that's really a necessity. My hair is past my hips so I put it up all the time when I'm at home (which is most of the time). When I go out it's up 50% down 50% of the time. I collect hairsticks and can do all sorts of updos in very little time. I like the look on people's faces when they see me put my hair up with just one stick in 10 seconds. Very Happy
Are you on LHC or UTT? Do you speak hair geek?
2b/M/iii classic checking in.
Eek! You found me.
Yes I'm on both and yes I'm a hairtoy addict. You hair's thicker than mine, though.
About men's assumptions, well people's hair are all different. I know people with long hair who never have a bit of tangle no matter how much they swish them around, and people with long hair whose hair get all tangled if you just looked at it.
One thing for sure, though. Long hair really get in the way of physical work. So I only leave it down if I need to dry it or if I don't expect to be doing much work.
