Up or down?

I'd just like to have my hair back!

 ... a little humor to lighten your day ...

BTDT, have a collection of cancer survivor shirts....learned the value of the phrase, "it's only hair"....also realized that HAIR IS HOT! Honestly, there have been times, sweating in the gym, I have been momentarily tempted to shave it and go bald (again)....then I cool off ( a little) a common sense prevails

I voted up, but that's really a necessity. My hair is past my hips so I put it up all the time when I'm at home (which is most of the time). When I go out it's up 50% down 50% of the time. I collect hairsticks and can do all sorts of updos in very little time. I like the look on people's faces when they see me put my hair up with just one stick in 10 seconds. :D

If it were merely a question of how I liked it, I would say "down." It feels nice and swishy and soft. I can touch it and stroke it. It feels feminine. But I have to wear it up for practical reasons.

Most men naively assume that if a woman has long hair, she can just let it down with a swoosh and effortlessly wear it down all day long. It simply doesn't work like that. Life isn't a Disney cartoon.

Eek! You found me. :D Yes I'm on both and yes I'm a hairtoy addict. You hair's thicker than mine, though. :)

About men's assumptions, well people's hair are all different. I know people with long hair who never have a bit of tangle no matter how much they swish them around, and people with long hair whose hair get all tangled if you just looked at it. :) One thing for sure, though. Long hair really get in the way of physical work. So I only leave it down if I need to dry it or if I don't expect to be doing much work.

My hair's too short to wear it either way. But that's a good thing, because my hair is so thick that if I let it grow long I'd end up looking like a sheepdog. Short and sassy is the style for me.

Every 5 years or so, I will get this idea that I want to let it grow out. It gets to between my shoulders and my waist and I wake up one day with an intense hatred for it and go cut it off.

^^^

I'm getting to the cut it all off stage now, its past my waist now but I'm getting some grey strands, I dreamt of getting it cut last night!

My hairdresser got a different job 4 years ago so I stopped getting it cut.

For the OP question, 50% each, a ponytail is almost as in the way because its so long, so I twist it tightly round itself then one spiral pin holds it firmly all day in a bun. If I do that when its nearly dry after washing it goes silky shiny and curly, but I suit it better chin length.

I have tried to have my hair long, but always ended wearing it up in a messy bun or a pony tail-- which to me makes it no different than keeping short hair. I do not understand men or society's obsession with long hair. There is so much pressure for a woman to have long hair. I prefer my hair to be cut into a chin length bob. I can use a barette to keep it out of my face, or put it behind my ear. I cannot stand the sensation of long hair getting into my face, feeling prickly on my neck or shoulders, or getting all sweaty at the back of my neck from a "hot mess of hair".

My son recently saw my passport and suggested that I grow my hair long again because he thought it looked pretty and I explained to him that long hair is torturous.

Every time some old male friend of mine on Facebook sees a picture of me with long hair they act all stupid about the long hair" and how I should grow it. To be honest this just makes me angry and I want to tell them to stop being such jerks.

I refuse to grow my hair long again because it is uncomfortable and it makes me mad when people act stupid about it. I'm not like other women and having long hair makes me feel like I'm trying too hard to fit in. It's extra pressure. I feel fake. None of these are comfortable feelings.

My hair is a little too short to do the things I want with it. When I first joined WP, my hair was down to my waist and I always wore it in a braid.

But now, I'll just pull it into a short bun most of the time. Sometimes I leave it down.

^ My hair is a little too long to do the things I want with it. Recently I had another dream about cutting off my hair to BSL (which is a hair geek acronym short for Bra Strap Length). In the dream, I was really happy to be rid of it, but in real life I would be heartbroken. I love having it long, but sometimes I wish it was less long, so I could just ponytail it and double the end through like I used to do. But if I cut it off, then I would miss being able to do the things I can do now. It seems that no matter what length our hair is, we always envy the advantages of people who have it at another length.

Hair geek special interest alert:

Here is a handy hair length chart, explaining the terminology for different lengths. :)

Nice chart! :) By that definition my hair is longer than tailbone length, but I don't think I can call it classic length. That's when it reach the "I can sit on it" point. My butt is so big I can never grow it to that point.

I don't really like the feeling of my hair on my back either, that's why I was thrilled when I discovered hairsticks and hair forks and grew my hair longer. Before that I kept it between chin length and armpit length, because I only knew how to do a ponytail.

I can't stand mine down. I'm not even sure how to wear it down without it getting in my face, which I cannot stand. I wear a ponytail almost all the time.
