I have Asperger's and ADHD. Recently they tried to diagnose me as bipolar but when the psychiatrist and I talked about it he said no. It was actually a really good experience and he listened to me and we got through everything.

My dad was diagnosed Bipolar in 1992, when I was 6 years old.
Because of this, I feel it's a huge reason why I was initially diagnosed with Bipolar as well.

But...
We now feel that my dad never really had bipolar, and that he's also on the autism spectrum too, it definitely makes more sense, but back then the information wasn't available.

MIsdiagnosed bipolar at age 13 and put on anticonvulsant and SSRI meds that made me act like a moron. Turned me into an extreme extrovert, which I hated. Finally I found the diagnostic criteria for bipolar disorder and pointed out to my mom that I met none of the criteria for a manic episode and was only depressed because of my social anxiety and being bullied. I spotted the meds immediately and felt so much better.

She pmed me why she quit so I feel bad but i still talk to her she is a good person its a sad shame a few wp peeps bully those they do not understand.

I am a self-diagnosed Aspie as of recent, but I was diagnosed with anxiety/bipolar 10 yrs. ago. The anxiety and BPD fit sort of. I've been anxious and I've had mania. But AS fits my life every day. I have to remember that the reason there is a diagnosis is that it is sometimes a jumping off point. It can lead you places you never would have gone.

I've been diagnosed with, and am fairly certain that I have bipolar disorder, I go from being incredibly quiet and socially withdrawn when "stable" or depressed to incredibly talkative and outgoing during my manic episodes. I do however think that my OCD/various anxiety disorder diagnoses could be better explained/replaced with an autism spectrum diagnoses.

I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 2000.

I'm pretty positive that I have it - off mood stabilizing medications, the mania/depression is obvious.

However, since I found out I'm autistic, I can see that some things that have occurred that I blamed on bipolar disorder were due to autism.

I am surprised they don't have anxiety disorder on there or OCD. I have been diagnosed with many things including ADD and that was also a misdiagnoses. Nothing explained everything so my mother knew I had more going on. I think as my issues kept on being resolved, I still had something else going on. I think for years all my social issues were blamed on my language disorder and former hearing loss. I have been trying to read about deafness and autistic like behaviors but can't find anything about kids who were deaf and then had hearing again. I was labeled as having autistic like behavior but some people suspected autism in me but none of the professionals thought I had it, it was only one doctor that thought I did and my parents never took me to him again. Asperger's was brought up but they said it was ADD.

I have never been diagnosed with any personality disorders or Bipolar. Schizophrenia has already been ruled out and no way in hell I have that. Because there are so many similarities between autism and ADD, I can see why lot of my doctors thought I had it. I asked my mother how did she know ADD wasn't the right diagnoses for me and she said "because the treatment you were getting for it wasn't working and the pills you were on and treating you like that was the main problem you had wasn't working with you so I knew you had more going on." So I asked her if I didn't have true ADD and she said I do have it but it wasn't the right diagnoses. So there is another example of a misdiagnoses right there. You can truly have a disorder but still have it be a misdiagnoses. But when I got the Asperger's diagnoses, it worked very well and I didn't have anymore doctor visits and tests after that because everyone finally had their answer what was wrong with me.

Anxiety can be misdiagnosed as Bipolar.
